Advantages: Small, Light and Compact
Disadvantages: Problems with itunes syncing
I have had an ipod for as long as I can remember. I had the first version of the ipod mini, when that died I switched to the ipod video. My mum got a shuffle for christmas however. I had not previously seen much point in them. They have no screen and so you can not search through the music to find what you want to listen to and they have none of the great features of the video ipod.
But when my mum got hers I quite liked the look of it. Its very small and light. It has a convenient clip on the back to clip it onto your clothes. It comes with headphones and a USB dock to link it to the computer and charge it.
I went to the gym with my mum and borrowed her shuffle and knew that I had to have one. I normally take my ipod video with me. I have tried several cases that clip to the waist band, the arm or hang around the neck but it is so big and heavy that it just gets in the way or drags you down. The Shuffle however is so light and just clips anyway without dragging your clothes down and you dont feel as though you are wearing it at all.
So a few days later I went and ordered the 1gb blue version of the shuffle. Its smooth and small, with a metallic sheen. The buttons are fairly simple as it can not do a lot. There is a shuffle and repeat button and an off button. Aswell as play, volume and skip forward and backwards. The sound quality is the same as any other ipod with a good set of headphones.
As long as you put only music you like on it, there isnt really a problem with the fact that you dont know whats coming up as it should be all stuff you dont mind listening to, or as in the "olden days" you can just skip until you find the song you want.
It doesnt have a mains charger and takes 4 hours to fully charge on a computer but you can buy a mains adapter for it which takes about half the time. The main problem with the shuffle is that you can only sync it with one computer. If you try to add songs using another computer you cant unless you wipe all the songs off it first. This is quite annoying! I have no idea why itunes wont let you just add songs to the shuffle and it is something they really need to sort out. It is also slower to sync with a computer than the bigger ipods but this isnt suprising.
This is a great gym buddy and can be found relatively cheap on ebay! Well worth the money!
Summary: Great little mp3 player with a couple of software problems.
