Advantages: Small, lightweight
Disadvantages: only charged by USB
After using the ipod classics for about 3 years before getting my ipod shuffle, people thought I was making a big mistake 'downgrading' to the ipod shuffle. However, it was the best decision I ever made in regards to how I listen to my music.
Instead of carrying around a huge piece of metal in my pocket, all I need to do is clip the shuffle on my collar, and can forget its there because it's so small and light.
It is very simple to put music on, via the itunes software. This make take a while depending on the speed of your internet/computer, but usually I can get an album from cd to ipod within about 5 minutes.
The ipod shuffle holds approximately 240 songs, which is calculated on the basis of the average song being 4 minutes long. So it will hold more/less depending on the length of your songs.
The battery lasts ages because there is no screen to waste the power.
On the ipod itself, there are only 5 buttons and 2 switches. The buttons are play/pause, previous song, next song, volume up and volume down. At the bottom of the ipod is the on/off switch and shuffle/continuous switch. The continuous switch plays in the order that you actually put the music on the ipod, the shuffle is a random order.
It has to be charged by a USB cable into the headphone socket. It is 80% charged after 2 hours and 100% charged after 4 hours and when it is fully charged should last up to 12 hours before it needs recharging.
Next to the on/off switch there is a little light. It is green when the ipod is on, but goes orange when the battery is getting flat. The light also goes orange when it is charging, and goes off when it is fully charged.
The ipod shuffle now comes in 5 colours, which are silver, blue, green, pink and red. The red ipod is exclusive to the apple website.
The RRP is now just £31 which is an absolute bargain in my opinion! However, I have seen it much cheaper in some places, so like most things it is best to shop around to find the best price.
Summary: A good quality, low cost mp3 player

- 24/02/09 I have a real ipod, and one of these babies, they are excellent for things like jogging, or cycling. Wouldn't want to risk losing the ipod touch while out an about. Great review... |
