The apple ipod shuffle (1gb ) 2nd generation is a stunning minature creation from the wonderful people at apple. It comes in five wonderfully vibrant colours, the classic silver, blue, green, pink and red. The product red as it is know, is only available via apple stores either on the high street or online. It is a special edition ipod shuffle, where for every purchase made apple contribute a portion of the purchase price to the global fund to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa.
This is the ipod shuffle that I purchased, it is a great colour, it does not cost anymore than the other coloured ipods and the purchasing of it will benefit others.

***Why the ipod shuffle is a good buy***

This ipod shuffle as I said has a 1gb memory, which means it will hold upto 240 songs, which in my opinion is plenty for the purpose of what this gadget is meant for. Because this little ipod is ideal for exercise of any kind, for cycling, jogging, walking, while at the gym, for walking to work, for on the tube, bus or train.

I also think there is alternative reason for this ipod to be purchased and it is not for the reasons mentioned above. I think that it is an ideal 'my first ipod' for children, this is why I purchased one. My daughter loved messing around with my ipod touch and enjoyed using my husbands iphone, she kept on saying how much she would like one, but as she is only 7 years old, I feel this is too young for the two ipods that I just mentioned, however I feel that the ipod shuffle is perfect, it is perfect in size, it is extremely sturdy, I would even say that it is more sturdy that ipods with a screen, as these are easily broken or damaged, and children have a tendancy to not look after things in the same way that adults would. Also with a normal ipod the chances of it being scratched are extremely high, whereas the ipod shuffle does not have the same metal base, so it is less likely. I did however by new headphones, the ones that sit on the outside of the ears and not the ones that come with the shuffle (these sit inside the ear), this is my personal preference as I don't like the idea of my daughter having them in her ears as she tends to turn the volume up high so I would rather some sound escape than be contained in her ears.
The sound from the shuffle is very good, my daughter thins that it is great, we also purchased a little speaker that the ipod shuffle sits on and the sound quality of this is still good.

***All about the ipod shuffle***

The ipod shuffle costs £31.00 from the apple store both on the high street and online, apple also offer a free engraving service, I had this done on the ipod shuffle that I purchased and it makes it extremely personal and is a nice touch to add. You can also purchase from other highstreet and online stores, just do a search and see what you come up with.
So you can truly understand how minature the shuffle really is, the measurements are as follows, the height is 1.07 inches, the width is 1.62 inches and the depth is 0.41 inches.
Once the shuffle is fully charged, you should have about 12 hours playback time before you need to charge again, which is great compared to others.
In addition to the ipod shuffle, you will also be given a USB dock, earphones and a guide.
The ipod shuffle also has a clip on feature, which means that you just need to clip it on to your clothes in order to carry it around, this maes it extremely portable without having to purchase additional attachments for the purpose of carrying it around.

***The generations of the shuffle***

There was previously a 1st generation shuffle, this is the 2nd and there is now a 3rd, and I am sure apple will continue to invent more or re-invent.
I will let you know a brief outline of the new ipod shuffle, these are that that have a 4gb memory, which holds up to 1000 songs, the cost is £59 and the controls are now on the earphone cord as opposed to the shuffle itself, there is also a voiceover feature that tells you what the song is that is playing and the artist. I am not going to go in depth on this as there are reviews solely for this, and I do not have one so I cannot give an honest review of it.

***How does it work in brief***

The controls are on the shuffle itself, they are easily accessible and extremely straightforward. But if you did have any problems then the guide would show you what to do. If you needed further assistance, then on the apple website there is a help page that offers support, and there is also a section that has copies of all the relevant manuals.

The guide itself will tell you how to put songs onto the shuffle, but in brief, you will need to plug the shuffle dock into a USB port on your computer hen put the shuffle itself onto the dock, the ipod setup assistant will then configure the shuffle and sync it with itunes.

You will need obviously to make sure you have internet connection, a USB port, itunes 7.4 or later, an itunes account and mac os, windows vista, xp or home. Most people already have all this anyway, maybe not the itunes account but the rest is pretty standard.

***In Summary***

If you want a portable music player, that is easy to use and that can adapt to the situations it is put in, then an ipod shuffle is what you need, it is extremely cheap, it serves its purpose and is a great ipod product to buy, also I would recommend it for children as an introduction to the ipod brand.
