iPod Shuffle 2GB

We (me and Hubs) are going gto Africa soon on an Overland Safari tour. We both have mp3 players, which are not Apple makes, which we are quite happy with, but had heard that the vehicle we are travelling in has an ipod connector, so you can take it in turns to connect your ipod up to the jeep and everyone can listen to your music.
For this reason we decided to get an ipod (wanting to make sure that the musical balance is equal). We decided to go for the ipod shuffle, shamelessly because of the price.
We managed to get an 2GB shuffle for £45 each, quite a reasonable price.

We ordered through amazon, and due to a royal mail mixup, I didnt get mine for nearly a week even though I had next day delivery, but anyway, I digress.
Hubbys ipod arrived, he went for the blue, and it is really funky. A really smart bright blue colour, diddy in size, I was quite shocked at how small it is (literally smaller than my thumb). You can fit about 400-500 songs on it, so pretty good going. iPlayer is a bit clunky to use, I havent spent much time looking at it, but I tried to download an album only to be told it wasnt available in the UK shop. (why show me it then?)
The ipod is actually part of a nifty little clip which you can clip onto your clothes which is really handy for the gym.

I had a look at hubbys, and felt disappointed that there is no screen. On my existing mp3, although it is slightly bigger than the shuffle there is still an LCD screen so you can see which song/album/artist you are listening to.

There are 2 settings: play in order, or shuffle. Now shuffle is a really good idea (hence the name) as you can shuffle through all of the music on your ipod and have a mixture played instead of listening to one album/artist at a time. However, what to do when you hear a song and wonder who it is by - there is no way of knowing as there is no screen to look at.

My ipod arrived yesterday, and is a funky pink. I was really excited to receive it and started playing with it at work.

One of my colleagues came over to my desk and was asking me about it, I told him my reason for buying it (the Africa trip with the ipod connector) and he had a look and told me that it doesnt have the ipod style connenction.
This shuffle dock is a USB connnector, and the ipod sits on a jack, which is the same jack that you plug the earphones into. So in actual fact, these aren't going to be able to be connected up to the jeep in Africa.

I am now looking into getting an ipod nano chromatic.
My own fault I guess for not realy researching into the ipod world, but I am slightly disappointed with the ipod shuffle for what I wanted it for. If you know what you are getting then it would be a perfect mp3 player.

Please read my review on the iPod Nano Chromatic!

Summary: Handy little mp3 player but not if you want to see what you are listening to
