Advantages: Nice and Small
Disadvantages: No Screen
An Mp3 player can be an expensive piece of equipment - especially if you opt for a designer model.
So how to you get hold of a product made by the most trusted brand for only a small fee?... easy - look no further than the 'iPod Shuffle'.
There are sacrifices you'll have to make though...
The 'iPod' Shuffle is Apple's screen-less mp3 player. As such, it's the cheapest iPod variety available with the 2gb version costing around £45. It's also marketed as being the 'smallest mp3 player in the world' - but i'm not sure if this claim is true or not.
This product is probably marketed at sports-people - joggers will especially find it useful, as you can clip it onto your person whilst running. It's also not as risky taking this version of the iPod out and about with you, as it's less likely to be damaged if dropped.
The battery life of the iPod shuffle is excellent - due mainly to the lack of screen, and other power-hungry features. This can result in one charge lasting over 12 hours - impressive!
The buttons on the front control the playback options - volume, play, pause, skip and back, whilst there's a little switch on the side which allows you either to play your music in order or shuffled up.
The downside to this product is that you'll only fit around 500 songs on it. This of course depends on the amount of compression you use on your mp3 or AAC files.
All things considered, the Apple iPod Shuffle is a great little item. No, it doesn't have fancy features or a screen, but the majority of people who own this probably have another mp3 player as well.
This is just portable music in it's most basic form - and it sounds as good as its more expensive iPod brothers and sisters also.
Highly recommended.
