Advantages: Small, light, metal casing
Disadvantages: Have to use the ITunes software to copy songs onto it
I was given one of these as a gift the other year. The IPod Shuffle range is the most basic range of IPods available.
It came in a hard clear rectangular plastic box. The Ipod Shuffle itself is very well designed. It is tiny, weighing nothing at all and the outer casing is made of metal which gives it a feel of being unbreakable. The buttons are easy to feel so if you use this while exercising, you can change tracks etc without having to look at it. It doesn't have a screen anyway and the main buttons on it are:
Play / Pause / Stop button
Shuffle / Normal Play button
Volume up and down buttons
Fast Forward / Next Track and Fast Rewind / Next Track
It has a metal clip on the back of the player so you can attach it to your belt or an arm band.
Mine came with a charging dock that I could connect to my PC to charge it up with.
You copy tracks onto it by having to install the ITunes software onto your PC and using that to copy songs across onto your IPod Shuffle. It can play the tracks you've saved onto it in alphabetical order, or alternatively, there's a switch on the player itself you can press which will play them in a random order.
The charge from the battery lasted quite a while if I remember correctly around about 8 hours or so of listening time.
I liked the hardware and the headphones that came with it were ok.
I however, found the ITunes software difficult / fiddly to use - My eyesight isn't very good. In the end, I ended up selling the IPod.
I prefer the Creative Zen Stone MP3 Player I used to own, which acted like a flash drive when I attached it to my PC and I could copy the MP3 files straight onto it using Windows Explorer. It was simple and much more convenient.
I can recommend this for people who want a player in the gym or while running. People that prefer to copy and paste files onto their MP3 players directly may find the ITunes software a bit fiddly / complicated. You may also find it difficult to use the buttons on the IPod if you have very large fingers.
Summary: If you love Apple you'll like this otherwise you'll hate it
