I got my iPod touch for my birthday, a few months before the 2nd generation touch came out. To be honest, it is the best present I have ever received.
The iPod touch is so much more than a music player. You can play videos, music, games, go online, use youtube and many other things, depending on the applications you purchase from the iTunes store, many of which are free.
The music menus are clear and easy to use; you can scroll easily with a flick of your finger, or tap on a letter of the alphabet along the side of the screen. You can turn the iPod on its side, using the revolutionary accelerometer which turns the screen depending on how you hold the iPod. Tilted on its side, the iPod allows you to flick through album artwork to find what you want to listen to.
You can also watch videos on the iPod touch, via Youtube or ones you have downloaded yourself from iTunes. Youtube can be very slow depending on the Wifi area you are in, whereas the videos already on the iPod don't take any time to load at all.
The internet application, Safari, is very similar to Safari on Apple computers, with a few adjustments to make it easier to use on the iPod. Zooming in, adding favourites or typing in URLs is easy to do and the keyboard can either be tilted portrait or landscape, but the keys on landscape are bigger; so for clumsy fingers, landscape makes it easier to type.
The newest additions to the iPod touch market have been applications that you can buy from the iTunes store. Many are free - there are so many applications; from racing games to train timetables, restaurant directories to health programs, there is really something for everyone on this iPod.
I really recommend that you buy an iPod touch, whether it is the 1st or 2nd gen, I am sure it will be worth the money.
