Apple iPod touch 16 GB
Advantages: Brilliant, rich display. Lots of software to download, Wi-Fi conection
Disadvantages: A bit pricey
The iPod touch really is a revolution in portable devices. If you think it's just your average portable music player, then you're very wrong indeed.
One of the first things you'll notice about the iPod touch is the difference in size compared to previous ipod models, being only 8.4mm in depth. This makes it incredibly light at around 4 oz and means you can have it in your pocket without feeling too weighed down by it.
The build quality is also generally very good. with the main body of the iPod being made out of metal, it makes it very robust against damage that may be caused by dropping it. The same can be said about the touchscreen, which is very difficult to break or even scratch, although it is possible.
So now we move onto Hardware. The touchscreen is very responsive meaning you don't have to put too much pressure on the screen which would increase the chances of damage. The battery fitted into the touch id a Lithium-ion battery, which will give you around 30 hours of music playback and 6 hours of video playback on average. The only button on the touch is at the bottom in the middle, which is primarily used to navigate back to the homepage of the iPod. The connectivity the iPod has is USB 2.0, Bluetooth and, probably most importantly, Wi-Fi, allowing you to connect to the internet at any Wi-Fi hotspot. A difference from other iPods is that it also has speakers, meaning you can listen to music without the need for headphones.
Then there's by far the most impressive aspect of this device, it's software. When you first use the ipod out the box, there will be various software already pre-installed. These include a calculator, calendar, clock, a list to eneter your contacts and, when a Wi-Fi connection is available, you can also see the weather, watch videos on youtube and even check your emails. But of course, these aren't the only applications you can download onto your ipod. There are literally thousands more available from the itunes store, varying in price, some even free. Apps include games such as Fotball Manager, Untilites such as an app to check battery life and even Apps to check the latest sports reults in one touch.
Even though you can have all these apps, there is still an option to surf the internet via Apples internet browser, Safari. A link to this is already pre-installed on the iPod and once in a Wi-Fi hotspot, you can browse the ineternet freely. Alot of main websites such as BBC are formatted to run specifically for an iPod touch, but even those that aren't can usually be viewed as normal as if they were on your PC at home. You can use all the same functions as on your home PC too, such as copy and paste and bookmarking pages.
However, theres is one slight disadvantage, and this occurs when you wanted to watch videos of the internet that use Adobe Flash Player. Unfortunately, any videos that run using Flash Player will not be available to watch on the iPod. However, you can still enjoy most youtube videos and even BBC iplayer to catch up on shows you might've missed when out.
So, if you're looking for a portable multi-media device, then this is defintely worth the money, full of features and a rich graphic display. If however you just want a music player, you may want to consider if all these features are worth the price you're paying.
Summary: If you want a portable multi media device, buy this one
