Advantages: extensive features, slimline design
Disadvantages: iTunes software, high price
The slim ipod touch 2G has dimensions of (104mm by 62mm by 11mm), with a glass-covered 89mm (3.5-inch) screen.
Extensive features include; music player, video playback (including a YouTube player), podcast support, photo viewer, a Safari Web browser, an email reader (compatible with Outlook, Exchange, MobileMe, Gmail, Yahoo, AOL or any POP email service), a Wi-Fi music store and other utilities (weather, calendar, maps, stocks, notes, clock, contacts and calculator).
The new iTunes App Store accessible directly from the iPod touch, allows you to download and install applications, including Internet radio players, games, voice recorders and social-networking tools. You can also extend the capabilities by using third-party 'Made for iPod' applications.
The ipod has playback for MP3, WAV, Audible, ACC (including protected files), Apple Lossless and AIFF. The ipod still does not support WMA music files but iTunes can convert these files to MP3.
The new genius feature creates 25 song playlists based on one song within your library, though for this to be effective you should really have a large library. The 32GB memory has plenty of space for enough music to create an interesting range of playlists.
The 2nd generation version has a high price but with all of the extensive features it provides value for money for those looking for more than just a basic mp3 player. Worth upgrading if you have an older ipod or mp3 player but no enough difference from the 1st generation to truly warrant an upgrade just yet.
Summary: good upgrade for owners of older ipods/mp3 players

- 30/06/09 I agree as far as the Genius on iTunes is concerned but the Genius on the iPod touch uses songs from your library that are similar, not songs from the iTunes store it is recommending you to buy. |

- 29/06/09 I don't like Genius - I think it's more for their benefit (to recommend things you could buy). |
