Advantages: Amazing touchscreen, aesthetically pleasing and a pleasure to use

Disadvantages: Speakers a lttle tinny and an Apple price tag

The Apple iPod touch is a fantastic and revolutionary gadget. Not only is it a music player (ACC, MP3, WAV, AIFF), but also a multimedia, web surfing and gaming device, but is it worth the heafty price tag?

The downsides:
-There is an inbuilt speaker which is fine for listening to in a quiet room with the volume at 60% but much higher and the quaility becomes tinny.
- I do hope that the new competition from sites such as Amazon and Tesco for the music download market forces Apple to reconsider some of their pricings as having iTunes on your iPod is a bonus, but not if you can get 'that song' for 50p cheaper.
- The battery llife does need improving. Apple have increased it from the 1st generation to 6 hours of video or 36 hours of audio but I have never had it run for quite that long. Charge it up fully before long journeys and maybe invest in an in-car charger.
- There just isn't a lot of improvements from 1st to 2nd generation; if I was an owner of a 1st generation and wanted to upgrade then I would wait until Christmas when there will surely be something new.

Now the positives:
+ The touchscreen is incredibly responsive and the interface is typically 'Apple': smart and aesthetically appealing. I love using my iPod not only as a music player but also as a gaming device.
+ The iPod really comes into its own when connected to the internet via WiFi; by connecting the user has almost limitless possibilities and this is demonstrated by many websites now offering an 'iPod Friendly' version. However this can also be a pain as when without WiFi (which, when away from your home, you generally are), the iPod loses half it's appeal for me which is disheartening and sometimes even fustrating.
+ The App store is also a great addition as costumers can purchase games and applications in as little as 3 taps of the finger. Most of the apps are good value and there are viewable costumer recommendations.
+ One of the noticable differences between the two generations of touches is the volume controller on the side, fantastic if all you want to do is raise or lower the volume.
+ When scrolling through pictures and album artwork, I am always struck at how surprisingly good the quality is. Sometimes it does take a few seconds for the photo to come into focus but when it does, I am not disappointed.
+ 32gb stores an impressive up to 7000 songs (in ACC) however if you were looking for purely space, I'd be looking more at the iPod classic 120gb
+There is good maps software on the iPod which has so far given good directions - as good as my SatNav at least - but obviously as soon as you start to move away from a WiFi spot, the interent goes so no updates. Do not rely on this, I just use it as a backup and save the page.
+ The accelerometer is really impressive, it detects movement such as shaking to refresh a page or tilting the iPod to control a game. It is aspects like this, and the highly sensitive touchscreen, which really show why Apple lead this market - they're just so precise and responsive.

Overall I have fallen in love for this outstanding product, in my opinion nothing comes near it and would recommend one to either an iPod virgin or a hardened nano addict. (though not as an upgrade from 1st generation to 2nd). Is it worth the heafty price tag? Yes, in my opinion, the WiFi, music player, multimedia and Nike + are worth it.

Summary: An amazing product and well worth the money and the maximum gb
