Advantages: Great sound quality, great functionality, app store

Disadvantages: No GPS or Camera. But meh.

Ahh the iPod touch. Or an iPhone for sensible people, as I like to put it.

I've had mine for a little while now, and I absolutely adore it. I love the games that are available, I love its music player, I love its apps... I love it.

The Touch isn't, admittedly, that lightweight. It's lighter than a Classic, but then small dogs are lighter the classic. Frankly though, I think it's worth it.

You've got to think of the Touch as less of an iPod, and more of a PDA. I had a Palm TX a couple of years ago that performed similar tasks, and I loved it. Until I lost it. If anything, the Touch is even better. As I'm sure you're aware from the popular adverts, there's a stupid number of applications about. And a great deal of them are simply brilliant.

The hardware its self is great too - the sound quality is good, the touch screen is responsive, and browsing the internet is brilliantly easy. Plus the mail application is great too, managing to receive emails from both my school's Microsoft Exchange and my own GMail account.

One thing to note, though, is that the shiny back is ridiculously easy to scratch. However, buy yourself a hard case and the problem goes - I've used mine for months now and there's none to be seen. If you're not paranoid about cosmetic details though, you needn't buy one - the screen is essentially scratch proof.

I'd quite like to see a camera and GPS too, but to be honest if you're that desperate for them you just buy an iPhone. And as for Bluetooth, it's on its way with the 3.0 software update apparently. So as long as you get a 2G (and not a 1G), you'll be able to use Bluetooth for a small fee.

Ahh, and one other thing - some previous iPod docks won't charge it (or the new Nano). Apple changed the pin configuration or something, so older speaker docks won't be able to charge it. Bizzarely my JBL OnStage Micro still does, though...

Superb, basically. I just wish I'd had the extra cash for a 16GB one now - I'll be running out of space soon with my gargantuan music collection.

Summary: An iPhone for those who don't want to pay an extortionate amount, basically.

I quite like them but 16GB just isn't enough for me. I've all but filled up my 120GB iPod Classic now.
