Advantages: Hours of entertainment through apps, WiFi internet, HD screen

Disadvantages: Too big to fit in a pocket

I bought an iPod Touch for my fiance's birthday and we were both amazed at the wonderful things which it can do! Of course it is an iPod and stores all your music but that seems to be just a small part of what it can do. As opposed to the iPhone, the iPod Touch accesses the internet through WiFi meaning much quicker and reliable connection, however it does mean that you will need to have access to wireless internet wherever you are. Many town and city centres have WiFi as well as hotels, even McDonalds has WiFi connectivity in its restaurants! Once you have logged on to the net you will find the whole internet as you would on a PC, the clarity of the screen is incredible in high definition and by tapping the screen or using two fingers to 'pinch' the screen, you can zoom in or out to make things easier to see. We were amazed that we could watch tv via the BBC iPlayer in glorious high definition, incredible what you can do with such a slim, small gadget!

The user interface is straightforward and nice to use. The touchscreen is heat sensitive so using a fingernail or stylus of any kind won't work, the heat from your fingertip is what it will sense. Typing is easy with a qwerty keyboard and as the iPod is kitted out with an accelerometer, turning it sideways turns the screen the same way to give a widescreen effect.

With iTunes, the store is accessible directly from the iPod Touch so you don't have to bother with syncing it to a computer, you can purchase and store all your music and videos there and then.

There are many fun and useful applications (known as apps) which can be downloaded free or for a small cost directly on your iPod Touch and this is easy to do and they are easy to delete if you wish. There is plenty of fun to be had with features such as a global positioning system, finding places on maps and showing satellite images as clear as a bell, as well as playing fun games, watching videos on YouTube and much more.

The size and shape of the iPod Touch is very nice, smooth and sleek. Too big for a pocket however but there are lots of sturdy cases available to keep it safe.
It seems to do all that the iPhone does except be a phone, but if you already have a mobile that you are happy with, the iPod Touch provides an MP3 player with an endless number of fantastic features thanks to the apps. A great gadget!

The sound quality is great and is on a par with other iPods, and of course it does depend on the earphones you use. The Touch has a built in speaker so you can listen to music/watch vids without earphones in decent quality. I'd have one of these over an iPhone anyday, I like to keep phone and entertainment separate but that's just my personal preference! I think the iPod Touch has come down in price since I bought one for my partner too, always the way!

Nicely reviewed...but I do have one pressing question - how is it as an mp3 (well, mp4, as it's an Apple product) player? Does it have comparable sound quality to the classic iPods? I guess that would depend on the earphones, clearly, but still...

I badly want one of these - I'd use it for music, and for eBooks - I'd love an eBook reader. Mind you, I'd rather an iPhone...
