Advantages: Great touch screen features, great sound quality and screen resolution. :)

Disadvantages: The back scratches very very easily. :(

In May after lots of research I finally decided to invest in Apple's wonderful touch screen revelation that is the ipod touch (second generation). The main reason I got it was that basically my old 2GB mp3 player had broken and I love music so I wanted a new one. There was never enough space on my 2GB one either, and it seems like a bit of a fashion accessory to have an ipod!

First of all I went onto the Apple website to have a look at the ipod nanos and was impressed at the sleek design and choice of colours. I then thought I would have a quick look at the ipod touches to see what they were capable of and was instantly hooked. I had heard of them before, but got them confused with the iphone and thought that they were at least £300. However, when I saw the £165 price tag I was pleasantly surprised even though it is a lot more than I would normally spend on an mp3 player.

I personally think that this is quite good value (well, considering what they were before!). Also they are worth it for what you get and you will never get bored because if you get bored of your current apps, you can just delete them all and start fresh which I have done and it's great! Honestly, with all the new apps being created every day you will NEVER EVER get bored of it!

When it arrived I was really excited as I cautiously took it out of the little cardboard box to reveal it's shiny apple packaging. When it comes there is a pastic sticker on the screen with a picture of what the screen looks like in action, which you peel off to reveal a glossy black screen. When you first turn it on, it comes with about half a bar full of charge, which is roughly 9 hours - and that's only half of it!

I sometimes slightly regret getting the 16GB version, as my ipod is often full up, but to be honest you can have 16GBs worth of music, pictures etc. on your itunes library. You can then have separate playlists and select your favourite playlists (but obviously only up to 8GB, as you can only fit that much on!) to go on your ipod. If you do want more space but go away a lot or rarely have easy access to your itunes library then I would suggest getting an ipod touch with a larger memory. Unfortunately they don't do the 16GB any more which is a bit annoying because to me it sounded about the perfect size. Apple now only do 8GB, 32GB and 64GB.

The good thing is that they're cheaper now though (well, not so good for me!), because I perchased my 8GB one in May from Apple (online) for £165. I know I could have got it cheaper then but after searching around a bit on Amazon and Ebay etc. I couldn't find any deals that were really worth getting because Amazon was virtually the same price and Ebay and other websites I didn't really trust because I have had some trouble in the past. Also I really wanted the free personal engraving and the shipping fees were free!

The new prices of the ipod touches are:
- £149 for 8GB
- £229 for 32GB
- £299 for 64GB

The earphones that come free with it (along with a usb charger, cleaning cloth and instruction manual) are reasonably good quality. I had some before that looked similar to the Apple ones and really, really hurt after about half an hour of listening. However, I have worn these on car and train journeys etc. and I hardly even notice I'm wearing them. If you lean over they can fall out quite easily though. The sound quality that comes out of them is not the best, but a lot better than others I've heard. Obviously you can invest in some better ones, which I might do soon as I think you can get a better atmosphere. People around you can't hear the beats of the music too much which is good for public transport etc.

On the whole, the ipod touch 2nd gen has good sound quality, a wide range of apps and good facilities like being able to view, edit and share your pictures and videos. I think it was a good investment and in the long run will be worth the money rather than buying a new, cheap quality mp3 player every year or so. The only real bad thing is that the back of it (which looks like a mirror) scratches EXTREMELY easily. So I would recommend getting a case for it the day you get it and don't worry, there are clear ones available so you can still see the engraving and the apple logo if you chose to have this done. I unforfunately made the mistake of not getting a cover and it got covered in scratches even when very gently polishing it with the free cleaning cloth that comes in the pack. So, if you are considering getting an ipod touch, I would definitely suggest you get one!

Apple have done it again, so this gets a well deserved 5 stars!!

Hope this helps, LouLou_xx
