Advantages: Great for music, apps, internet, gaming etc
Disadvantages: Not the most up to date generation, no camera
Just because this generation is not the most up to date doesnt mean it's still not worth a look! You can currently find this 8GB model being sold for around the £60 mark - a great price for a great item.
The item itself is very slick with a black front and silver back. You can determine the 2nd generation by the oval/rectangle in the top left hand corner.
SCREEN
The screen is clear, crisp and defined. When compared to the iPad 3, you can see the new iPad has a slightly brighter appearance, but I feel the iPod 2nd gen's screen is still superb.
MUSIC
The music player works through the iTunes system, just like every other Apple product. There are many genres of music you can organise your tunes into. You can also add cover art to a particuar song, artist or album. There is a also a shake feature which shuffles your music by simply shaking the iPod. The sound from the iPod is great, as you'd expect, however I find the volume levels to be weak. (This is not a 2nd gen fault, but the same for all Apple products). I would recommend buying a good pair of headphones with a great volume control to allow for louder music.
APPS
Just like iPads, iPod Touches and MAC machines, the Apple App store is easily reached and easy to navigate. There are apps for everything from cooking demostrations to virtually impossible quizzes to online banking. They and are categorzied by genre, top 20 and paid or free. The iPod comes with apps such as the note feature, alarm clock, world clock, calculator, maps and more.
LAYOUT/BUTTONS
The iPod layout is very simple and the most current iPod Touch follows the same structure as the 2nd gen. Small square app icons appear in a grid on the home screen. A wallpaper can be added which is the backdrop for when your iPod is locked. The lock button is on the top right of the product's edge, which also doubles up as the on/ off button. The volume button is on the left hand side edge, and the import (via usb to charger/ laptop/ computer/ docking station) is on the bottom.
TOUCHSCREEN
The touchscreen on the iPod 2nd gen is flawless. I have owned this item for 3 and a half years and have never had a problem with the screen. It is very easy to use your finger to swiftly browse your machine and select, zoom, copy, paste and highlight specific items.
INTERNET
The safari app is already added to your iPod and is your internet source. In a web enabled area (eg wireless internet zone) the internet is easy to access and can be browsed quickly and efficiently. I have been unable to use the internet when out of these areas (which is where Wi-Fi steps in - there is a more expensive model which includes this).
OVERALL
Overall, I really love my iPod. No, it's not the most up to date and no it doesn't have a camera like the modern versions have. But apart from these small issues, it seems to works just as the current generation does for ridiculously less!
Summary: It may not be the newest generation, but it's well worth the deals you can find
