Apple iPod touch (3G) 32 GB
Advantages: Amazing quality, great reliability, exceedingly easy to use
Disadvantages: Fingerprint prone, speakers poor at high volume
The iPod touch is a high quality piece of kit, something you might expect given the £250 price tag. It is a small rectangular device with a chrome backing and a minimal interface. The screen covers almost all of the front of the device and there is one button located on the bottom. This means that almost all operation of the device is done on the touch screen by various gestures. The iPod touch seems to attract fingerprints and after just a few hours of usage mine was covered. Unfortunately Apple have stopped shipping these devices with a special wipe to get rid of fingerprints. Ultimately, they are of very good quality apart from this one minor problem.
My iPod touch is yet to give up on me and I am also yet to encounter any problems with it so can only conclude that it is very reliable.
Ease of Use
If the iPod touch is anything, it is easy to use. As previously mentioned there is only one button on the front of the device which is used to 'wake' it up and two volume buttons on the side of the device. This means that the device is controlled in a number of other methods. Like other iPod touches you control this with a series of finger gestures, but unlike previous generations, the 32gb and 64gb models of this generation can be controlled by the small microphone built into the headphones.
The best way to describe the features of the iPod touch are simply to list them. It can play music, it can play video, it can check stocks and weather, you can watch youtube, you can store pictures, you can read email, you can use the internet, you can set alarms, you can make notes, you can use maps to find out where you are, you can create voice memos and use a calculator and buy things directly from iTunes. Where this really comes into is own is when you download apps from apple's app store. When combined with appstore your iPod touch all of a sudden becomes an ebook reader, a gaming console, an instant messaging device, a newspaper, a tv guide, a cinema time checker, a currency convertor, a device for shopping on amazon and ebay, a language tutor and so on and so forth. One very, very useful app allows you to use skype on your iphone meaning that it is possible to make phone calls as long as you are in a wifi area. The features on this device make it a multipurpose masterpiece.
If there is one place where the ipod fails slightly it is in sound quality. When using headphones it is fantastic, but the built in speakers suffer at high volume. Thankfully it is compatible with so many peripherals and external speakers that this isn't much of a problem.
In conclusion, this device is expensive, but it is well worth it.
Summary: Worth the buy
