Advantages: Slim, Attractive and easy to use
Disadvantages: Your friends will constantly want to borrow it
I bought my 8 GB ipod touch over a year ago and I still love it to bits. I find it fits easily in your pocket and causes no 'catching' issues when you go to get it back out, unlike some of the more bulky personal music players on the market.
For those who are new to Apple ipods and are deciding if the ipod touch is the one for you, then I'd say you have to really think about what you want in a music player.
The 3rd generation ipod touch offers many useful features including touch screen, apple applications, speakers and wifi capabilities. Touch screen is extremely useful as well as super easy to use. My friends 3 year old wasted no time in getting to grips with the drawing application I'd downloaded. The applications give you a whole range of tools, games and programs conveniently at your finger tips that you can use on the go or within the comfort of your own home.
Although I use the apps and also go on the internet via a wifi connection, the ipod touch will always be first and foremost a music player, and it really does do the job well. You can reach your music at the touch of a finger and navigation around the music player itself is easy to get used to, with everything you need in plain site. There is a headphone socket at the bottom of the ipod to listen to your music in private, or internal speakers will also play your music out loud so you can share your tunes with those around you.
In terms of durability, although at first the ipod touch may appear some what fragile compared with the more bulky ipods such as the ipod classic, it has stood the test of endurance over the last year with me dropping it on hard floors and banging it into unforeseen objects (all by accident I must add). It is still in perfect working order with only a few scratches on the back.
I know people who have complained that when it comes to ipods as a whole, the battery life decrease over time and eventually leave the ipod unusable. I will admit I had this with my old ipod mini, but with the ipod touch I've have no such issues, with it lasting me many days of regular use before it needs recharging.
Summary: A good musical companion that's easy to use and won't let you down
