Advantages: TOuch screen, holds a lot of music
I have a iPhone which I've owned for a year or so now, recently upgrading from a 2 to a 4s which I absolutely love. As such I have gotten very use to a touch screen and so when I needed to purchase a new iPod I knew it had to be a touch iPod as I wanted to keep up with technology also. I bought a new Seat Ibiza recently and that has a docking station for an iPod and so my old one has gone in there permanently hence why I needed a new one.
Wow, the iPod has come a long way since the original ones with the touch wheel on the front and when the only thing they did was play music. To be honest all I really wanted was something to play my music on and while the additional features are great I already have an iPhone to do all these additional things on and so still only really use this to play music on but that is fine, for those who want this iPod to now do everything, it really does. According to an article I read, as of March 2011, Apple has sold over 60 million iPod Touch units so it is definitely very popular.
Like I've said above, one thing is that I found it very similar to the iPhone in that it looks pretty much the same and runs on the same operating system. I bought a black one so as not to confuse it with my iPhone which is white. The main screen on the iTouch is turned on by pressing a little round button on the bottom of the iPod.
Adding music to the iPod is extremely easy and can be done in a number of ways. As I really only use the music function on this iPod I will mostly focus on this when it comes to this review. I didn't want to spend too much money on this iPod as I already have another one in the car and still have one of the originals which is permanently plugged into my Bose dock in the kitchen for music in the house. This iPod is for when I'm out and about, running, etc so I don't need it to hold much, this is why I only bought the 8g one. It cost me £169 from the Apple store itself. We have an Apple laptop and have iTunes on this laptop. I can purchase albums or sometimes individual songs that I like from there and then store them on my computer and then plug in my iPod and transfer them to there. I also have CD's that I have put on my hard drive which I can then transfer to my iPod. The nice new thing about this iPod is that it has direct access to iTunes so you can actually buy the music on this device and have it downloaded immediately which I think is a great way of buying music. I have done this with a number of albums and the transition has been really easy and the albums downloaded perfectly. What I also love about this iPod compared to the very original ones is that the photo of the album cover is shown on the screen so you can flick through all of your albums and get a nice visual and see what you want to listen to rather than just see the name of the album.
The battery power is really quite good on this iPod. It is said to last for about 40 hours of music play and I have to say that it has never really run out on me although I do recharge it after every use just to make sure it is well topped up. I have about 100 albums on here at the moment and I still think I have quite a lot of space left, according to my husband as I don't know how to look up my usage but for me that is plenty and gives me enough variety to listen to different types of music whenever I want.
You can now text using your iPod and it is done in exactly the same way as it is on an iPhone. You can text to any other iOS 5 device over Wi-Fi and you are given unlimited texts as well.
There are also over 500,000 apps available on this iPod but seriously who has the time for all of that. I have apps on my phone so don't use them on this but it is a nice feature for the iPod to have. There is free access to the Apple apps so you can download them straight onto the device which is good.
I am very pleased with my new iPod and even though I just use it for music, its intended function the addition extras are great too and a great upgrade from the original iPod.
