Apple iPod touch (4G) 32 GB
Advantages: Great new features, Amazing new screen, Faster performance, Dual cameras.
Disadvantages: Rear camera lacks flash, Still image resolution poor, Apple headphones could be better.
I absolutely love my iPod Touch. I can not imagine going anywhere without it, it is my computer and my MP3 player and it is bursting with new features that were not in previous generations.
The new 4th Generation iPod Touch features a sleek new retina display, featuring a 940x640 display, with pixels that can not be distinguished by the human eye. This makes everything you do on the iPod Touch look amazing, with high resolution photos becoming life-like, and web pages becoming rich in detail. In fact, the "Retina Display" has been claimed that it features the maximum amount of detail that the human eye can perceive, pretty amazing if you ask me.
Of course, with new models comes more power. This new iPod features the new Apple A4 chip, replacing the old Samsung chips found in the previous models. The A4 is clocked at 1GHz, while the previous 3G iPod was clocked at around 600MHz, so the A4 could be described as nearly twice as fast as the 3G iPod, helping people play the newest 3D releases on the app store, and also helping developers develop newer games, richer and richer in detail thanks to the increased processing power.
The new iPod also contains a highly sought after feature, dual cameras. These two cameras are both capable of capturing still images and video, although the front camera is only meant for Apple's new FaceTime app, and therefore has a lower quality (VGA) than the rear facing camera, which is capable of HD video recording. There are many good and bad points to the rear iPod camera, the main flaw being the lack of flash, which makes the camera perform very poorly in low light conditions. In daylight though, the camera is stunning, and could be compared to expensive digital cameras. Another flaw is the fact that the rear camera is only 0.7MP, making the resolution of still images small, which might require you to resize the pictures in order to view them properly on a PC screen, often resulting in a loss of quality.
The iPod has also been on the Atkins with an even thinner design than before, a thing that I did not think was possible, this makes the new iPod even lighter too, although making the iPod thinner and lighter than the previous model could be described by some as annoying, as the new iPod can be harder and more difficult to hold. The new style changes have also forced the volume rocker switch, and the sleep/wake button backwards, which is less suitable for quick access, especially for people who have owned previous iPods.
Now of course, music playback. There is not much to say here apart from.. well, it's brilliant. Music quality is superb, even through the average Apple headphones (which I recommend to replace with some Sennheiser ones ASAP). The bass is deep and pounding, and the treble is nice and 'shaky' offering an excellent experience listening to all types of music.
Summary: Absolutely amazing MP3 player,
