Advantages: Apps, music, video, camera, almost everything!
Disadvantages: Battery life can be used up quickly.
Before getting the 32GB 4th Generation iPod touch, I owned an 8GB 2nd generation iPod touch which I quickly filled up with a variety of apps and music so I needed a replacement. I am so happy that I replaced it with a 4th generation and not just a bigger 2nd generation!
So where do I start? There is so much packed into one device that it is hard to pinpoint one stand-alone feature. Generally the main feature of an iPod is for the music but the iPod Touch offers this and so much more. The main screen has some pre downloaded apps that include notes, photos, maps, weather and many more. One of the apps is the app store where it is easy to download new apps and can easily be navigated using the buttons on the bottom in a row. You need to be connected via WiFi to download Apps but this is very easy to do as you just need to touch 'Settings' and select the WiFi network you use. Also an iTunes account is needed to download apps and this can be easily created when the iPod Touch is plugged into iTunes for the first time.
One of the other main features of this iPod is the camera. There is both a rear and front-facing camera which, when looking at the picture on the iPod itself, seem to be of equal quality. On the latest update the camera is easily opened up by sliding upward in the bottom right hand corner when the iPod Touch is locked. The 'up' volume button can be used to take a picture as well as touching the camera button on the screen itself. Video mode can also be enabled by sliding the camera button across to the video camera button on the screen (you will see it on the bottom right hand corner.) The video recording is HD and it definitely shows as the quality is superb. The videos can be viewed alongside the photos in the Photos app. Although getting photos and videos off the iPod onto the computer is quite difficult as nothing can be dragged from the iPod onto iTunes which can be quite frustrating. However if you purchase for example an album from the iTunes app on the iPod it can be transferred to the computer by right clicking on your iPod in iTunes and clicking 'transfer purchases.' Also when plugged into iTunes, music and videos (videos must be in .mp4 format) can be easily dragged and dropped onto the iPod itself which shows up in the left hand column on the side of the iTunes window. The only thing that to me is a disadvantage is the battery life as when the apps or WiFi is being used the battery life can be used up very quickly.
Summary: Music, apps, a great camera and so much more packed into one device! Definitely recommend.
