I got this iPod in January 2011. Since then, I have used it every single day. I think that it is really useful and I could not imagine my life without this device. My phone isn't that fabulous so I depend on my iPod wherever I go. It has a lot of great features that I find really useful, such as the calendar and notes. I use the almost everyday as they are really convenient features. The design is nice and slim, it has a mirrored, shiny back which I'm not so keen on as it can get quite scratched without a case. The camera is I thought was really good, but compared to the newer iPods and iPhones, it is quite pixelated and in some lighting it can appear quite blurry. The sound quality it alright, but it's not the best. Overall I would recommend this iPod to someone who isn't extremely fussed about the camera/sound quality or the design of it. However it is a great device for people who people who enjoy surfing the web and social networking.
This iPod from apple really does seem to promise everything - a decent camera, great sound quality, packed with apps - it seems to do it all! I must say I am generally impressed with Apple products, though they do seem overpriced. I'd had an iPod 2nd generation before, but I was getting bored as it lacked a camera, which is needed for instagram, Snapchat, as well as just taking photos, so I bought a 4th Gen for £150. The new 5th Gen was on sale at this point, but for an extra £100 or so, I couldn't see what it had that the 4th didn't, though it did seem faster and slicker. The music quality is completely up to scratch, great, clear sound, easily controllable volume, and as always a huge range of songs on iTunes, as well as many free music apps in the App Store. This function has never let me down, and I can rely on this iPod for good tunes. The apps aren't as great, they seem to drain the battery of my iPod, as well as frequently shutting down, or freezing the touch screen. This has been pretty inconvenient. Other features seem to be fairly strong, and though I have dropped this a few times without a case, the screen hasn't smashed, which is great. The battery life is pretty dreadful - sometimes it drains in less than an hour if I'm using it constantly on apps. A good friend of mine has the 5 gen, and so far I have heard nothing but praise - nothing like the problems with the apps and the battery. The 4 gen doesn't upgrade to iOS 7, so for this reason, as well as the other problems, I'd probably say that unless your only looking for good music quality, go for the 5th Generation.
This has got to be one of the best iPods ever created! seriously I have a massive problem with apple, how they suck people in with there over expensive products that don't last long. But I have got to say this is the one exception, I could not live without this iPod. Its quick, slim, with great music quality and well just perfect! basically its a mini ipad with everything you would want. I have had it over 3 years which is amazing considering my last 4 iPods stopped working after about a year.
Packaging and Accessories As far as I know the IPod touch packaging is all the same no matter if you buy it online or through a shop. The iPod touch that I own is black in color and has 8 GB of storage. The IPod touch comes in traditional apple packaging. That is the box is made out of a clear plastic and the device that you have bought is right on top of the device. On the sides of the box is the silver writing that says iPod touch and there is also the apple logo on the box. On the back of the box there are the specifications of the device and there is also what is included in the box. Once you tear of the plastic then you can lift the plastic lid of the box. When you open the box you lift out the iPod touch which is resting on top and then you see this little cover which houses all the books about learning to use the device and warranty's and such. Once you lift the books out of the box there is another compartment which houses the usb cable that the IPod touch uses to charge and to connect to the computer. There is also the wall charger that comes with the device and the typical apple white earphones that come with all apple devices like this. The device also comes with two apple stickers which are pretty cool. All the accessories like the earphones are separated by a clear plastic cover which is very easy to take off. I think that overall apple have done an excellent job of presenting the iPod touch and also packaging the device, everything is easy to take out and open up and I have no doubts that everything would be protected in transport. Specifications Height: 4.4 inches (111.0 mm) Width: 2.32 inches (58.9 mm) Depth: 0.28 inch (7.2 mm) Weight: 3.56 ounces (101 grams) 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi (802.11n 2.4GHz only) Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen Multi-Touch display 960-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 pixels per inch Music playback time: Up to 40 hours when fully charged Video playback time: Up to 7 hours when fully charged http://support.apple.com/kb/sp594 Build and Features The iPod touch that I have bought is black but you can also but the iPod touch in white. It is black on the front and has a big black button on the front of the device which acts as a home button and does other things. There is also a front facing camera which is used for video and face time and so on. The front also houses the 3.5 inch touch screen which is covered in strong glass. The sides and back of the device are all made out of a shiny metal which I think is aluminium. On top of the device are the lock and power button, and nothing else. On the right side of the iPod touch is the volume the buttons which are up and down. On the bottom of the device are the usb cable connector and the speakers. On the left side of the device there is nothing at all. All of the buttons are very easy to find and use, they are black in color and they are raised slightly for easy use. On the back of the device is also the rear facing camera which is 5 megapixel and is able to shoot HD video. There is no support for external memory like a micro SD card. The actual finish of the device is brilliant and you can tell it has been made with good quality material. The black color on the front is very glossy and sleek, which makes the device look very clean and cool. The glass on the front is very easy to clean and is very durable. The screen does well to resist scratches and some fingerprints but you do have to clean it often to keep it looking clean. As I have previously mentioned the back of the device is made out of a shiny metal material which does show up fingerprints and scratches very easily so you have to be careful when using the device not to scratch it, however it is quite easy to buy a case to stop this from happening. All of the buttons are easy to use overall I think that the build quality is again excellent from apple. The back can be a problem but I think that the metal makes the iPod touch look better and it also feels better in the hand when in use. Features/Sound Quality/ Other. I have previously mentioned there are two cameras on the iPod touch, one on the front and one on the back, the front facing camera can be used to face time or to take pictures, the camera is actually quite good for a front facing camera. The pictures are not that good but for video quality it is very good for face time. The camera that is on the back is also very good quality, it shoots full 720 p hd video and also allows for some very good photos, it is not as good as some other cameras on phones but it does is a very good job. Neither of the cameras come with an led flash so that means that the ipod is not to good for taking photos or video at night or in low light conditions. The sound quality is great when using headphones, as you would expect, but the speakers are also very good quality. They are quite loud and do become distorted on some of the songs that you play but other than that the sound is very good. The bass in ok but could be improved and you cannot hear all the instruments or vocals but it does produce a good quality sound. The apple headphones that come with the iPod touch are ok, they are durable and they can last awhile but the sound isn't too good, they leak a lot of sound and you don't hear all of the instruments. The bass is ok for in ear headphones but they could be improved. The best thing about the apple headphones are that they do go up to quite a loud volume on most songs. On top of the newer features you also have quite a few features that are available to other devices such as a calendar, being able to access your emails through the Ipod Touch through something like the gmail app. You also have other usual features such as being able to take pictures and video, and with the Ipod Touch you have something called the Game Centre where if you create an account you can play some games that are pre installed in the game. Another cool feature is that you have multiple home screens and you can have many apps stored on each one. But if you scroll all the way to the left then it comes up with a little search box and a keyboard where you can search the device. I like this feature a lot because it makes it so much easier to find something on the device, especially if you have loads of things stored on the Ipod Touch like me. Overall when buying and using an Ipod you want the media capabilities to be excellent because that's the reason you are buying it and i think that the Ipod touch is a great device to listen to music and watch films on, although the screen size can be quite small for films. The Ipod is exceptional at playing music and it can play many different file types and that's the same for films as well. I think that this is a great product to buy if you are an avid music fan. Good Points There are many good things about the iPod touch 4th gen. the first thing is that there is literally no lag at all when using the device, especially when dealing with large amounts of information like when selecting and listening to music. This is due to the hardware of the iPod touch as well as the software which is Ios and I have mentioned before it runs smoothly and without any problems what so ever. There are a few great things about ios, one of the great things is how it upgrades easily and you are always getting new features, recently you can upgrade to ios 6 which has a bunch of new features. And usually you can upgrade the software more than once if they choose to release big updates which they usually do each year. Although not all updates are comparable with every model. Included on the ipod like the Ipad and the Iphone is the app store which is a marketplace for all the apps that are available to the ipod touch. There are hundreds of thousands of apps available to download, these can be both free and ones that you buy. I think that it is a great feature and it is very easy to use, you can easily search for the things that you want and you can just download it. I have yet to download an app that does not work perfectly on the Ipod Touch. You cannot call or text people off an iPod touch at least not like you can on a phone, however you can download apps that allow you to text and call people and some of them are for free, however an Ipod is not as phone and so if you are buying it then you are likely to be using it as just a media device. Although you cannot call and text people you can do something called facetime which is when you use the front facing camera to video call someone, to facetime you must have a wifi connection and the person that you are facetiming must also be able to facetime. I have used Facetime a few times and i think that it is a very cool feature and would be good for some people but i find that i do not use it very much. There are many more features on the operating system but there are too many to review all of them however overall the operating system on ios is excellent, it is very simple, easy to use and I have never had any substantial problems with my iPod touch. There are many other good things about the iPod touch 8 GB like the screen; it is retina which means that it has an incredible resolution and the screen is excellent. Like i previously mentioned the screen is around 3.5 inches diagonally which means that it is a really good size, however if you are watching a video like a film or trying to read text it sometimes can be difficult. If you do continue to read or watch something on the Ipod Touch then the text or video,is very clear and you can easily read text and watch videos without any trouble. The screen does attract finger prints and some scratches however this does not affect the overall experience of using the screen. The screen can be easily seen in the sun and has some great viewing angles because the screen is very bright and vivid and pictures and other things are great on the iPod touch. As the iPod touch is actually centered on music the music player that comes with the iPod is excellent. The layout is very good and easy to use, you just scroll and touch when you want to play a different song or if you want to change category, this makes it easy to listen to music which is the purpose of the iPod. This music player is excellent in my opinion and beats most others that come with other devices; the colour scheme is also very good in my opinion because the text is very easy to read so you know which song to click on to. The Ipod does have most of the features that you would expect such as the ability to create playlists and sort through your music by albums or artists and other cool things like the ability to mess around with the settings to change how the music sounds. The music interface is very easy to use and creating a playlist is easy because you can do it on the computer, you create a new playlist and add songs to it and then when your Ipod syncs to your computer it will be added to the Ipod. There are so many things that are good with the Ipod touch that i cannot review all of them but overall the Ipod touch is a great device and there are only a few things that could be improved, i have mentioned what i feel are the most important points with the device but there are loads of other things that could be seen as great features. Bad Points There are a few things that I don't like about the IPod touch 4th gen, the first thing is the metal that is used to on the back becomes very scratched very quickly. The actual build is great and I think the metal looks cool but it really takes away the finish of the device when you turn it round and it is heavily scratched. Also the metal attracts finger prints and grease, which can become very annoying to clean and again takes away from the finish of the device, also if you put the iPod touch in your pocket that is filled with coins then the back will be scratched easily. Another thing that I don't like about the IPod touch is that it has no expandable memory. This is common with most of apples products like the iPhone, and the reason I think it is bad is because if you listen to a lot of music or have a lot of apps you are limited to a certain amount because of the size of the iPod, and if you want to upgrade to a bigger size it costs you quite a bit more money. I think that if you buy a bigger sized iPod it is ok, but even if you have a 32 GB iPod you can still run into problems if you watch films and so on. There is only one other thing that I can think of a bad thing with the iPod range is that you can only sync the iPod to one computer, this isn't such a bad thing in most cases but if you want to charge it on another computer it will sync all of you stuff to this computer which means you can lose all of your music. Like I said this isn't such a bad thing if you aren't going to move the iPod between different computers but you still can lose our stuff which I think is one bad thing. Other than those bad points I can't really think of anything else the headphones is not the best but you get what you pay for and these in ear apple are cheap, the sound matches the price and so I have no complaints about the sound quality for this price and they seem to last quite a long time, but as they come free with the device I don't really see it as a big problem. Conclusion Overall I think that the IPod touch is an excellent product with very few problems. The screen and build quality is brilliant, as is the upgraded face time camera and the new operating system. There are few things that I think effect the score but only slightly, the metal back feels great but becomes scratched very easily, also it attracts fingerprints and grease. There is also no ability to expand the memory which is an obvious thing with most apple products. I think that the iPod touch is priced better now because it is a lot older but it should be pretty good for the price now in my opinion. I would rate the IPod touch 4.5 out of 5 stars. I do like how although the Ipod touch is centered around music and the product focuses on its media capabilities it can still be used for many other things such as playing games, taking pictures and films and so on and i think that is what makes the Ipod Touch much better then the competitors because it is a Entertainment device as well. Recommendation I would definitely recommend this product to anyone as I think it is a great product. However soon the new generation iPod touch will become available and so you may want to hold on to see if you prefer that or to see if the price drops on the 4th generation at least then you'll still be able to get a great product but for less money. I have found that the 8GB Ipod touch is the best deal because it have a good amount of storage but it is still in between in price, the price has dropped now because of the new generation being released and it may be even cheaper, however you can still buy the Ipod touch in other variants like the 32gb and 64gb versions, these can be more expensive. Where to Buy You can buy the IPod touch 4th gen from many online retailers like Amazon for around £130 - £140 You can also buy the iPod touch in different sizes and colors which may affect the price. You can buy them in different stores like PC world and so on for around the same price as Amazon Thank you for reading my Review on the Ipod Touch 4th Generation 8GB version. Funkyshoes3.
I got this as a christmas present last year and have found that it can easily be used and enjoyed through the ages, from my 3 year old neice to my 72 year old grandma. You can get all the apps that you get on an iphone and you can also download books to read. I personally enjoy the games from the app store and it has a good sized screen to play them on. There are only 2 things that i feel let it down slightly and they are the camera, which isn't very good quality in the dark/night time, you can see the pictures but not very well and the speakers, which don't go very loud, but you can always buy a set of speakers or a docking station to combat this problem. Other than that this product is a must buy!
Since my first iPod mini nearly 10 years ago, i've been loyal to Apple and their collection of MP3 players - and not because they have all my music collection in iTunes! The thing I love about this iPod touch is that it does the job of being an MP3 player fantastically well as you would expect from Apple but also the fact that it is so much more than a music player. The large bright screen is fantastic for web browsing and comes into its own when you are travelling and want to check your emails without digging out your laptop in a public place. I have found that this feature is of almost as much use as the ability to play music! The Apple App store is also fantastic and allows the iPod touch to be a hand held gaming console as well - with games much cheaper than you would get with a PSP/Nintendo DS. Cheaper but no less enjoyable and no less suitable for soaking up hours of your time whilst travelling or even in the house. As you'd expect, the battery is more than adequate to cope with a large touchscreen and hours of gaming is possible. The form factor of this iPod is fantastic, and is such a flexible device you almost forget its an MP3 player!
This is such an amazing mobile device. You can listen to music anytime anywhere. Not only can you listen to music you can watch movies, youtube videos (read the comments as well), browse through the internet, and play some of the best games mobile devices have to offer. All of the little things you buy can add up though, such as the newest hottest game, or that new hit. But they are all usually low priced. You can download almost any app that will help you out in the world. Such as a GPS navigation, or maps, or instructions on how to do this, you can watch sports scores. Its a computer at the palm of your hands. Its an amazing device and it has a very good battery if you are listening to music and browing through the internet. It however does not have good battery if you are playing a game, it could last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. You can have free texting programs if you are in a wi-fi area, which could be a real money saver for you if you don't have unlimited texting. The possibilities are endless with this device and it could turn out to be a life saver for you. The only thing that limits the device is not having any internet access. Overall it is an amazing device and I would recommend to anyone out there who still has not gotten this beauty.
This is a great alternative to a tablet computer or smart phone! Not only does it store and play all of your favourite music but you are able to access the internet. I did find the touch screen a little tricky at first but I loved how compact it was. It fits nicely in my pocket or bag and means I do not always have to carry around my computer for little things like checking my email. We were given these by college and encouraged to use them to help with our study eg downloading and using pod casts. This Ipod saved us when our satnav ran out of battery! The maps are pretty good. Being Ipod it does come with their very good headphones which are pretty expensive if you buy them on their own. I would recommend this to someone wanting a multifunctional music player. However as previously mentioned the touch screen can be hard to use.
Got it for £160 at Argos and have no problems with it in the whole year I have owned it. I have 532 songs on it along with 100 photos, a page of apps and 11 small videos i have recorded on the iPod. Most of the memory is now used up but it is enough for me not using it for film or TV programmes. However, watching films on the iPod is good with the screen large enough to see but not to big to carry around in your pocket. I have used the camera on the iPod for both filming and photos. While it is ok the camera isn't great and isn't always very clear. The speaker works well for playing out loud at home but out and about it can sometimes struggle to be loud enough. In my experience, the battery life for me has been quite poor, even when I'm not using the iPod the battery is going down so I'm constantly having to charge it up but to start with it was fine! Overall, the iPod touch was well worth the extra money than the now similar Nano and I would definitely recommend it regardless of some of it's disadvantage points.
I managed to pick one of these up off a friend for a mere £79 bargain right?! These things have so much going for them. Lets talk about ease of use first of all. You could be a caveman being thawed out from the most remote part of the world with no language skills and you'd have downloaded played and set a high score on temple run in minutes. Skipping between the options and depending on how good your WIFI is the internet is usually pretty speedy. The touch screen is marvelous and the technology has come along miles since the first touchscreen MP4 devices where you'd have to crush the circuit board to select and option. The camera is maybe one let down taking still shots isn't great in low light it's pretty bad and you can't really get a great picture. The HD video camera on the other hand is FANTASTIC it supports 720HD and with a little know how you could easily put together an amateur film here is some shots put together by a Cheap app £1.59 if I remember! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwnT-Z8Iiw0&feature=fvwrel
I love my iPod touch. I consider myself a real music lover and I feel my iPod is my perfect accessory. As someone with poor computer skills I find that having iTunes actually on the iPod is a genius idea. I can download music directly off my iPod onto iPod without the need for a computer input -brilliant. Also as some who doesn't have a smart phone or a laptop I find the internet access it provides ideal for when I'm on holiday etc. The addition of the aps store gives all the wonder of an iPhone but without all the added expense. I'm sure the camera quality isn't up to some people's standards, but for an amateur like me the quality is ideal. I do wish the iPod could be louder though and sometimes I find the battery life can be limited. Although this is probably a sign that I'm just using it too much!
If you cannot afford the monthly cost of an iphone then the next best thing is certainly an ipod touch. It is a great product. You can use it for a wide range of things. Apps, photography, instant messaging with imessage and calling people with Skype or Facetime. I personally use all of those things. The camera isn't the best out there when it comes to being in limited light but it is still perfectly acceptable and it makes up for it when in good light and filming HD quality videos. The sound is good but I prefer to put in some headphones and it transforms the device into a good little gaming machine that you can lose yourself in. The internet works fast on it and you have unlimited possibilities with what you can download from the great Itunes app store. Personally I am addicted to Instagram and Twitter so this Ipod is my trusty companion when it comes to using these apps. I really would recommend this to anyone that wants to jump on the Apple bandwagon. It is a great product.
Essentially this is just a MP3 player however apple has added some of the most wanted qualities. The ipod touch is almost a phone with its FaceTime and Imessage facilities allowing video calls and text messages to be able to send through wifi to other users of the Apple Ipod touch and phone customers. The ipod touch comes in two sleek, sophisticated and elegant colours of black or white, however with the mirrored back cases will be needed as the mirrored back is notorious for it's easy scratching. The IPod touch has the sleekest slim professional design and many other brands are copying its design. The screen is a wonderful 2x3 inch screen which is fully finger sensitive. The Ipod touch 4th generation now has a camera on the back and front and a HD720 video recording service. The battery life on the IPod is around 24 hours if not used continuously but if on many applications and the internet then battery life is consumed quickly. One major disadvantage i think the Ipod suffers from is many of its features such as the internet, many applications and facetime and imessage service run off wifi therefore will not work where wifi isnt present. The memory is pretty basic but can hold about 20 applications 100 photos/videos and 400 songs depending on sizes. Apple have a easy to use app store with many free and paid apps for the consumer to enjoy at their own leisure and come in many different varieties such as Banking, Social Networking, Informational, Gaming and Business not to name a few. Ipod now has the Game centre allowing gamers to compete other player around the world on games such as Fruit Ninja. Security settings are always remained top priotrty with apple and have continued to have the 4 digit lock screen before the device is usable (only if this feature is enabled). It's the most ever changing product and researchers and fans are wondering what else can they do to the Ipod touch now to make it anymore better. I believe if you have the money or don't know what to get that friend/relative for their birthday, you can't go wrong with a IPOD TOUCH
I had one of the original Ipod touches, it was great and I loved it. I loved the camera on the back, I loved the wifi access.....and then whilst I was on holiday somebody stole it. I managed to claim back through insurance so I could get a new one but they no longer made my model, I therefore bought the newest one available, the 4G Ipod Touch and after a little while of getting used to the differences I came to love this little personal helper! For starters, there's a front camera on the Ipod now, which is great quality and fantastic for taking photos with or even using as a mirror (there is an app for that), the apps you can get for the camera are great so you can take lots of funny pictures and ones against different backdrops, these apps can provide hours of fun. The touch screen is much more sensitive than the original version, which is a good thing, the product itself is really thin and really light, a massive improvement from the already small and light-weight previous version. The colours and updates itself are great. I use my ipod for virtually everything now, from diary-keeping to learning Spanish, from alarm clock to MP3 player, it is a very handy gadget. All of my previous Ipods have all been 8GB and thats all I've ever needed, however, because of the unlimited choice of apps available and the extensive use I get out of my ipod I find that I do need a larger size, this is something to consider when buying.
After four long months of being nagged at by my 6 year old daughter for an Iphone, I kind of relented and ended up buying her an Ipod Touch 4g instead due to positive comments I had heard from other people. I have had my Iphone 4 since the week they came out in 2010 and my daughter has been just as addicted as me - mainly with the games... as she has got older she wants to act more grown up and having a phone was one of those things... The great thing about iPod Touch's is they can be easily mistaken for a phone - they can practically do everything! ********** Spec * Black in colour * 8 gig (memory) * Height: 4.4 inches (111.0 mm) * Width: 2.32 inches (58.9 mm) * Depth: 0.28 inch (7.2 mm) * Weight: 3.56 ounces (101 grams) There is a total of 4 buttons on the device which are: * Home / Awake (at the top) * Volume Up/Down buttons (two buttons) * Home button You can give the device a "fast charge" plugged in for two hours and a full charge takes four hours. The battery gives up to 40 hours music playback when fully charged and up to seven hours of video playback. Look further down the review for more information on spec on some features ********** Contents The iPod comes in a partially transparent box - the bottom half of the box is white and has iPod Touch written across the side. Inside the box you get: * 1 x USB 2.0 cable - to download music & charge the iPod * 1 x set of earphones You then also get the iPod Touch of course :-) ********** Set Up Setting up the iPod Touch is very easy. Although you do need a computer with iTunes downloaded - you simply connect the device to the computer and it will automatically take it through the set up. ********** Appearance The iPod I purchased for my daughter is black - she did prefer the white one but I thought it would get grubby easily and the darker one would be better for a young child. You have the large screen on the front - outlined with the black - and the back is silver in colour and curved in shape compared to the newer iphones. ********** Original applications on the device On the iPod after set up you do get a few essential applications on the device which you generally see on many organisers / phones. These include: * Calendar (you can also use this to add events / appointments) * Camera (there is a total of two camera's, one on the face, one on the back of the device) * Photos (which stores all the photo's taken on the camera) * Youtube (because everyone loves YouTube!) * Stocks (incase you want to check the stock market...) * Maps (gives you directions on how to get to places using GPS) * Weather (so you can check the weather forcast) * Notes (to make notes) * Reminders (so you can make a reminders list if needed) * Utilities folder (contains alarm, calculator, compass and voice memo) * iTunes (to download more music from the store) * App Store (to download other apps) * Game Centre (game leader board with other app users) * Settings * Newsstand (to download newspapers or magazines on subscription) * Contacts (phonebook) * Videos (to hold recorded videos from the camera) ********** Features My favourite features on this include: * Facetime - so you can do video calls with other ipads/iphones/ipods * The camera on the back of the device shoots impressive 720p HD videos. The front camera is brilliant for facetime and other video calls - or even using as a mirror or posing for pictures! * Like the latest iPhone & iPad this iPod comes with a Retina display - the screen is LCD and measures 960-by-640 - and the Apple website states that the pixels in the screen are 78 micrometers across - and are not visable to the naked eye. * You can listen to music loudly through the built in speakers or using the provided headphones - either way the sound quality is amazing! You can see more images and information about the features at: www.apple.com/ipodtouch ********** Differences from iPhones to iPod Touchs Literally the only difference from an Ipod to an Iphone are the following: * No telephone number to make "real" calls * No telephone number to send "real" text messages * Need to be connected to Wi-Fi / Router for internet to work However with the 4g Ipod touch, if you are up to date on your software you automatically have a function called "iMessage" which iPhones also come with (again, providing the software is the latest") - anyone with iMessage can message other users free of charge - as long as they also have this facility on their device. My daughter loves this, she actually feels like a little grown up doing this - if you also have an iPod Touch 4g you would use the users email address instead instead of a mobile telephone number. My daughter is forever texting me - mainly abuse like "you stink mum!" and I find its fairly safe as someone would need to have her email address to message her - and I always oversee what she does on it... ********** Making "calls" and sending "texts" to non iPhone / iPod users from this device My parents loved the idea of my daughter getting an iPod and couldn't wait to message and call her themselves. Although neither of them have an iPhone / iPod, this is actually possible. The iPod app store is exactly the same as an iPhones - therefore you get the same applications. If you find a multi-platform phone app which works across other app stores such as Androids & Blackberrys it is possible to ring other people. Our favourites are Skype & Viber to do this - which can both be purchased for free on the app store. ********** App Store If anyone ever told you, that "You can actually do anything on these" - was more than likely not lying. I was very shocked when I first got my phone at all the different apps you can get on these. Many great app's are also free which means you don't have to spend a fortune on it. The App store is split into the following categories: * Books * Business * Catalogues * Education * Entertainment * Finance * Games * Health & Fitness * Lifestyle * Medical * Music * Navigation * News * News Stand * Photo & Video * Productivity * Reference * Social Networking * Sports * Travel * Utilities * Weather There is so many apps to choose from. My daughter mainly has different types of games, but also has useful things like a flashlight, photo editing programmes and voice changing programmes. Don't ever be put off by this review because I have declared I have purchased this for my child - if you look at the above app type list you can see its very age varied and this will suit everyone. ********** MUSIC! Like all young children, my little girl likes to rave around with her headphones glued to her ear with the iPod in one hand. The iPod is very easily updated with music that she wants - just simply download what you want - to a computer / laptop... connect the iPod to the computer using the wire that comes in the iPod box and you just follow the on screen instructions on iTunes and it just transfers. Further information on downloading iTunes and other information can be found at: www.apple.com ********** My verdict Like many portable apple products the battery doesnt last as long as Apple claim - especially if you do use these constantly... my daughter needs to charge this at least once a day... However I will not knock the device on this because when you take into account everything it does you really can't be surprised at how much the battery runs down. The earphones which come with the iPod are so uncomfortable for my daughter - I feel the same about the ones that came with my phone. This can be easily resolved by buying better fitting earphones. I would also recommend if you were to buy one of these to buy a fitting silicone case to go round the back as apple screens have a bad reputation of being smashed easily. Overall its a great little entertainment device - watch films, listen to music, play games, do video's/photos... its actually amazing and keeps my daughter entertained for hours on end. The device isn't slow or laggish and runs very well. My 6 year old daughter can easily work the ipod without a lot of help... so it is really great for all ages. In my opinion this is a great present for young children - gives them a bit of freedom to do more "grown up" things - but can also be for an adult who doesn't want to spend over £400 on an actual iPhone. ********** Price and availability I purchased this from Argos which was the lowest price I could find earlier in the year. The price I got it for was £159.99 - its currently on sale for £154.99 (£5.00 reduction) and this is on the black and white models.
