Advantages: Amazing interface. 8GB is enough for most people.

Disadvantages: Stay away from the ap store.

The iPod Touch is good value, crammed to the eyeballs with features and has immaculate sound quality. It's easy to compare the touch to an iPhone, a lot of people that buy the touch will buy one because they weren't ready for the costs of an iPhone. I treated myself to the touch as an upgrade to my thumbdrive ipod shuffle and am pleasantly surprised.

As an mp3 player the touch is everything you could want - touch screen, converts a huge range of music files for you, imports album art etc. The way it arranges albums as catalogued pictures is really special and rejuvinates your pride in your music that is lost when you're staring at a folder of mp3 files, there's a wide variety of settings and it does all this with just one actual button. The touch is very stable - apparently it runs using an ARM (gameboy) processer and a custom built version of linux on a solid state drive that has no moving parts to shake or suffer impact damage.

Apples App store is another story - although there are some free aps and something for nothing is never bad, I was dissappointed with the range of aps and there are a lot of badly made aps that are being sold for money. Having to pay for the firmware upgrade from 1G to 2G rubbed me the wrong way too.

If you're wondering what you're missing by not having an iPhone I can sum that up in one word... a microphone. If you have a wifi network at home and work then frankly most people will miss nothing more than the microphone. I lie, the lack of GPS on the touch is the really big difference, the IP based locator works well when you're on a wifi network and I can get directions home from say a fast food restaurants free wifi but the inability to get a gps location in the middle of nowhere will be a game breaker for some people. If you dont plan on using the touch as a GPS device in the wilderness then I think you'll find it hard to be dissappointed by it.

Summary: Hard to be dissappointed
