Apple iPod touch 8 GB
Advantages: good memory; lots of free apps
Disadvantages: earphone jack; easily scratched
The second law of thermodynamics tells us that, with time, entropy tends to increase. Things become more disordered, things fall apart.
This holds true, for Apple's Ipod Touch, an object of such sheer cheek I can't believe it hasn't been slapped it yet.
First, I shall discuss the very few positives. It has a reasonably large memory, enough to store 1000 songs. The file quality is okay. Many apps are available for free, including many of the classics of world literature. The ipod does have wi-fi capabilities but if one lives in a region unequipped to deal with wi-fi, much of the £100 one spent is rendered useless.
Now, I shall discuss the negatives. The cumbersome size. I am used to the sleak, whippet-like thin-ness of the ipod nano - this is a diplodocus in comparison. Also, the games played are moronic and childish, yet strangely addictive. Finally, the back is prone to scratches.
Worst of all, however, is the decay of the ear phone jack. It literally just wears away into entropy. Because it corrodes, the connection between earphone and ipod is destroyed within about 10 months. One can hold the ear phone againts the jack side in order to get a circuit but this is bad for the arthritis. The fact is, my ipod was in perfect working shape bar this eroded jack. Once the jack had gone, the rest was rendered useless. It fell apart from the smallest of causes.
Ear phone jack is the Ipod Touch's Achilles Heel.
Summary: plays music when the jack ain't worn away
