Not a contender for the ever powerful iPod

This little mp3 player is targeted at the same user as an ipod nano and when first released did this well, but there are reasons this nifty little gadget isn't in everyone's pocket.

The form factor (size) of the player was, when first released, impressively small. However these days iPods offer more storage for less space. That said this is nowhere near as combersome as some of the early iPods and does fit into the pocket nicely.

What this does have over the ever popular iPod is a radio and voice recorder. It also can store photos and videos, although I hardly use this feature as the screen is very small. Another issue with the screen become apparent during the day. It's nigh on impossible to see what's on the screen is moderate to bright sunlight which, for a mobile device, is a problem. You end up trying desperately to shade the screen with your hand whilst squinting something chronic. Not ideal.

If you have a long list of songs sorting through them can be tiresome. There's no quick way of getting from Adam and the Ants to M People without trawling through all the letters in between.

Would I buy this mp3 player again? Probably not. I would probably conform with the crowd and get an iPod. Would I complain if I was given one? No. It does the job adequately, but that is all.

Good for music, but no videos

This is the Creative Zen V Plus. I bought this product just over a year ago now, and was quite impressed by this little MP3 player.

The appearance of this device really is quite impressive, and the 8GB model comes in 2 colors, the glossy black and blue or red (I had the red one). These vibrant colors against the glossy black really makes this device pop out at you. The buttons on the front of the MP3 player are play/pause, back button and the joystick to navigate about the menus. On the left hand side of the device is a slider which when pushed up locks the device and when held down turns the player on or off. On the other side is the volume buttons. On the top of the Zen V Plus is the headphone slot and the USB port slot.

The 1.5" screen is very vibrant and a high quality. This can turn choosing a theme for the device a very lengthy process as they all look so good that it will be impossible to decide. The one downside to this is that the screen is quite small and makes watching videos on this device quite hard. So i wouldn't recommend this product if watching videos on the device is one of the main features that you are after.

The 8GB of memory space is plenty enough for all your favorite songs and a couple of videos.

The sound quality is very good and very clear at all volumes, which makes listening to music on this device a dream!

The player has all the features you need on a music device. It has; music playback; video playback; the ability to create playlists and an FM radio.

This was a great little MP3 player, until I bought a Mac and was unable to use it as it is not compatible with the Mac and only uses windows media player and WMA files.

What you get in the box:
      Zen V Plus
Creative Headphones (the only headphones that stay in my ear!)
      The installation disk
      USB lead
      Instruction manual
      Felt case

I would recommend this to anyone as an MP3 player, but not as a video player as the screen is just too small!

      Great little player!

This is a compact, quirky MP3 player that is all you would ever need!
It's good looking and durable (dropped many times...).

      Design:
At only 7cm x 4cm (approx) this is a very small gadget for an 8gb memory. So if compactablity is what you are looking for, then look no further!
It has a nice simple design consisting of its screen, joystick (selecting/skipping songs), and two controlling buttons on the front. On the sides we have volume control and on/off/hold sliding button.
Very smart looking. I really like how simple it is.
The colour is subtle, yet adds a whole new dimension to the look of the device.

      Features:
8gb storage - lots of space for you!
Photos and videos can be put on. I tend to use photos as backgrounds.
Colour screen, can set themes (something I LOVE)
Good battery life - an essential!
      Microphone.
Radio, which you can set presets for.

      Summary:
      -Good looks
      -Easy to use
      -Good volume and sound
-Easy syncronising with Windows Media Player
      -Lots of features
      -Durable
      -Good space capacity

great value for money and will keep you happy for hours

This Creative Zen is always going to been in competition with Ipods but there are two main reasons to choose this zen over the Ipod. The first is that it has a FM radio function, i really like being able to listen to local and national radio stations as a change from the music i've downloaded on to the player. The second reason is that it is incredible easy to add and remove music and data to the palyer direct from your laptop/computer. Although there is software that comes with the player, copying music on to the player is as easy as clicking the file, dragging and dropping it in to the Creative Zen folder on your computer. The 8gb holds a ridiculously large amount of music and i've never had a problem with space on the player. The music files can be copied and moved between any device and computer, and played with any media program unlike the limits imposed by itunes and the Ipod.
This device is tiny and very lightweight, the controls are very easy to use and i find the little joystick at the front a very convenient way of controlling the Zen. The battery lasts forever and can easily be recharged by connecting the player to your computer using your USB cable. I have had this player for nearly two years now and I have had one major problem where it would not turn on or recharge. I looked for advice from the Creative website and found that the problem was that the Zen had lost all its charge. All i had to do was connect it to my computer, recharge it fully and let it update its software so it resets itself. I didn't lose any of the data stored on it and it was as good as new in about 6 hours and it didn't cost me a penny. That's what i call customer service.
I am impressed by the quality of this player and would definitely recommend it to others. I love it and it is as good as the day i bought it two years ago.

        A pretty £100 paperweight

I brought one of these last years and I was really disappointed once id had a play around with it. On opening I was greeted with a gorgeous little MP3 player and was really excited about it, hoping to be able to use this at the hospital during labour instead of carting a boom box around, but after hours of charging and downloading music I found that the MP3 player didn't work at all, it would crash as soon as you went into the music menu I tried to re-set and re-download the music and made sure none of the music was a virus but to no avail! thoroughly disappointed with the product especially from a brand such as creative! I tried to return this product but was faffed around so much by the supposedly reputable company I brought it from that it was out of the 30 day warranty! Then creative wouldn't take it back either!

Disappointed with the product & Creative as a whole.

You could ask for more, but not much.

Why follow the crowd and buy an ipod when you can have so much more for your money, 8MB storage, colour screen, video, sound recording etc. This mp3 player is very robust and does not seem to get scratched even plonked in a bag with no case. I have had mine for over a year and it still looks like new. It is easy to use although the scroll down could be faster. The colour screen is small but very readily visible. Battery life is very good unless the screen is on too often, so watching video or regularly switching between albums will drain the battery very quickly. Overall it is a very nice little player, sits nicely in the hand and is nice and small. In fact I like it so much that if I were to manage to break it tomorrow i would replace it with another of the same.

        Disadvantages

Good small mp3 player and ideal for people on the move

I've had this MP3 player for around a month, and have been really happy with the mass of features that the mp3 player has. The screen althought being very small is very good quality and is fine for playing short movies but if you are going to use the mp3 player for the movie feature only I would strongly remcomend outerwise as the screen is so small it can be a bit difficult to watch after a while. But as the mp3 player is so small it is ideal for cycle/walking as it fits in the pocket so neatly but the screen can scratch easy if put with key or other sharp objects. The Mp3 player also has a radio which is very usful. The Radio is fairly easy to tune and can pick up a large varities of channels. The MP3 player has fairly good battery life lasting around 15 hours audio playback but this can vary if you like watching movie. So overall this is a good MP3 and i would recommend buying it

        Disadvantages

        nice

I received this creative zen as a present and my initial thought was that it looked very stylish and it was a nice size being very small. The screen is colour, and has a display which gives you all the information you'd need when you're listening it is extremely easy to use there is a joystick and a couple of buttons that control everything. I think it has very good sound quality that is very clear but I would have liked a bit more bass but I brought new headphones to sort that problem out. It also has video playback and you can view pictures really easily. You can customise the menu and finding specific songs is easy to do. The player freezes occasionally but is still quite reliable. Downloading the song is easy as you can just drag and drop which is very handy. However every so often my commuter will not recognise it but after a couple of attempts is fine. I think the battery life is extremely good and I only find myself charging it about twice a week compared to my old ipod nano which I seemed to have to charge everyday! ! The size of 8 GB is satisfactory as long as you don't have masses of music you want to put on a player. The microphone for recoding is very sensitive and brilliant for voice recording. The fm player is a bit of a let don its fine if you are in one place but I find with travelling it becomes very crackly. I love this mp3 player and would defiantly recommend it if it has the features you are looking for its perfect for on the move and is brilliant value. It would make brilliant present for children and they are bound to love it : )

Creative Zen V Plus PMP 8GB Storage

CREATIVE - Where the ZEN came from - 02/11/2007
The Creative Worldwide network is called LABS > Creatives UK product branch is under the Europe labs which established itself in 1993.

Networks include - America labs- Asia labs- Europe labs.

-Product > CREATIVES ZEN V Plus MP3 Portable Media Player 8GB
Stylish Blue Black design - Available RRP date: 02/2007

        - > Start < - Creative Zen PMP (Portable Media Player)

I've always been interested in these types of PMP component packages whether it's a standard screen model, or whether it is HD quality or touchscreen quality. The OLED screen definition is very good, sheer gloss and glamour which is very user friendly; it has a Nokia feel for me; not surprising really as both companies originated in the East and Chinese market before setting their sights on the Western digital market.

The 2cms X 2cms squared screen is of very high quality and holds it's own in the function stakes. The MP3 Player only is compatible with JPEG customary images. That you can load off from a digital camera, the PC, or from the internet itself. The audio quality is crystal clear, of course depending on the size of file the MP3 file as the higher the size of the file the better the quality. The one thing that saddened me with this product was the fact that it has limited file recognitions.

**Software included: MediaSource - MediaExporer - ZenCast Organiser ** The Zen does have some excellent features that do include these free PMP applications that comes with the package.

PLEASE NOTE > NO - MT - Mobile Technology functions are available with this product. ** No MP4 converting or encoding is available**. For any songs that have been downloaded onto your PC from paid music sites (Protected by copyright) will be able to be played by this MP3 Player

        - 8GB of music storage -

I find the 8GB is sufficient to play over a 10000 MP3 music tracks. The transfer rates are fast due to the fast USB transfer fast - track Windows music browser software. What is a noticeable difference is that it is not an ipod. There are not so many features nor as stylish and slick. Naturally, there is no iTune extravaganza, with freebies and membership options that Apples ipod do include. In my opinion there is only one iPod MP3 player. No-one can emulate it. If, you're an iPod fanatic this MP3 player could put your nose out of joint; it carries a slightly clumsy portable player look and feel than Apples' iPod marketing dream machine. The display is of good quality but now looks a little outdated; amazing really as it is only 10 months old. Just shows how quickly this market turns over digital products and designs.

        - Styled on Apples iPod -

The timing for the Zen launch co-incided with the earlier ipod nano launch earlier this year (2007). I'm no Creative fan as they seem to miss out on the boat regards to style and nano technology. The feel of the PMP is notably clumsier than ipods from Apple. Though functionally very astute and slick. My interpretation on this MP3 player reminds me of the first pace-maker in the mid 1990's. Sorry Creative, your still lagging behind on this matter. Yes you have rounded the edges off nicely and the glossy colours do this product proud but still lacks a chic-ness that Apple does so well.

        - Size matters -

Weighing in at 44g - Yes this is a hefter, no it has not put on weight since the beginning of 2007. It is just that Zen V Plus is not part of the nano technology revolution. 2007 is the year where nano popped over to the UK and gave out the Werthington humbugs; thanks nano.

        - Zen's extras -

Yes, please take note; the 8GB is a fanastic amount of digital MP3 space for a start. The voice-recording is a fab utility - please try it; I did it was a revelation. Extreme quality; not that I like my own voice of course, though it does help. External recordings again superb. Ideal accessory for a pop concert maybe. Sending love poems to your sweetheart. No bucket is included with the PMP and ear phones; so keep it clean.

        - That important price -

Retails for over 159.00 GBP- Available online from www.dabs.com - 129.00 GBP - For even great offers checkout a cashback offer before buying this product as you can save up to 50.00 GBP - Worth checking out online for these deals.

        - My verdict -

I'm going to give this PMP a 6/10 overall. Not a favourite of mine even though functionally superb and has some very favourable attributes as mentioned.
I hope you have found this review helpful.
