Creative Zen Vision:M 30 GB
Advantages: Great for music
Disadvantages: Not great for Video
This was my wife's MP3 player until a fortnight ago when she upgraded. Although I already have an Archos media player I use that mostly for video so it is useful to me to have something more suited to music.
I gave this to Meg as a birthday present four years ago and the fact that it has never broken and we have had no problems with it whatsoever is testament to the quality of the player. I have always been a fan of creative products and although this wouldn't be my first choice nowadays it is still a fantastic product. Even after four years of fairly heavy use you still get about nine hours of battery life for listening to music.
The model I own is the 30gb one which is ample for music but would not be enough if it was the player I used for video. The software that comes with the vision M is very easy to use, I find it much more instinctive and straightforward than iTunes. Using the player to create playlists, edit track info...etc is not as easy as it could be so it is much easier to do this whilst it is connected to your computer.
The vision M has a 2.5" TFT LCD screen which is fine for photo's and to see what you're doing on the player but not ideal for video. As with most creative media players the vision M has a built in FM radio which is a function that is missing even on many modern media players. You can record the radio which is another useful tool. There is a built in microphone so you can use it as a dictaphone if needs be but it is not the best feature of the vision M.
The headphones that came with the vision M were OK but there is a noticeable difference when you use a decent pair of headphones. By today's standards the vision M is a little on the chunky side. The touch pad has a clicker so when you are listening to music it clicks to tell you if for example you are changing the volume which seems completely pointless.
I would choose this over an iPod but not over my Archos or my wife's newer creative media player. People are still charging between fifty and ninety pounds for this on ebay and amazon, I would say fifty is a fair price but there are better players you could buy for ninety.
Summary: One of the best players of it's time.
