Advantages: Fantastic sound quality.
Disadvantages: None.
I gave the Creative Zen X-fi2 to my wife as a birthday present a few weeks ago and it is fantastic. We have the 32GB model but apart from the storage capacity it is the same as the 64GB, 16GB and 8GB models. Meg's previous media player was the Zen Vision M, I selected another creative media player as she had been so happy with her previous player. The X-fi2 is the best media player that creative are producing at the moment.
The sound quality from the X-fi2 is superb and the 'Xtreme Fidelity' features really do add to the audio experience. The X-fi2 has a built in speaker and although the sound quality from this is not perfect it is a lot better than from any other portable media player that I have heard. The X-fi2 supports; MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC and Audible 4, which pretty much covers every format that we have audio files in.
The X-fi2 is Creative's first fully touchscreen portable media player. Often touchscreen can be a nightmare with buttons being unresponsive or badly organized but the X-fi2 is instinctive and easy to use (The benchmark test for new technology being easy to use is my Mum and she had no problems with this). The X-fi2 is incredibly light, it weighs only 75g. The software that comes with the player is very easy to use and does everything that you would expect.
As with the Vision M the X-fi2 has FM radio which some people may never use but my wife often enjoys listening to the radio so it is an added bonus. The X-fi2 has a 3" TFT LCD screen which although only half an inch larger than the screen on her previous player is a lot clearer and offers a much more enjoyable viewing experience. Although there is a 64GB model available my wife mostly uses it for music and 32GB is ample. Also the player supports up to 16GB micro SD cards which is useful if she ever needs more space and is great for copying pictures that we have taken on our phones.
The X-fi2 is an outstanding player, it is much better than an iPod but in purely video terms I would still choose my Archos. The 32GB version would set you back around £140 from creative at the moment and although this isn't cheap is justified by the sound quality. I would strongly recommend this for anyone who loves music.
Summary: Another great product from Creative.
