Advantages: Still an Ipod. Decent sound
Disadvantages: Stuck with Apple phones. Navigation is awful.
It's an iPod so, as you would expect, it's a piece of cake to manage via itunes and, as always it sounds great. But there are 2 main problems I find with it.
Firstly, the buds that come with iPods are notoriously not the best. Most people in the know change them pretty quickly for a better quality pair from an alternative manufacturer. Except this time you cant! Apple have decided to remove the controls from the ipod itself and instead position them halfway up the headphone cable. In a way this is good because you can keep your player in your bag or pocket safe from the elements and still navigate your tracks but it also means that, at the moment, you are completely tied to the supplied headphones! You can't even alter the volume without them. I'm not sure that this was Apple's finest move.
The second issue is navugation itself. It's just really awkward. Ipods are known for the simplicity of their operation, but it ain't the case any longer! Navigation involves a series of convoluted presses on the control pad and it's just not intuitive any more.
I NEVER thought I'd do this with an Apple product but I jsut can't recommend this new gen Shuffle. In my opinion the designers have messed up here.
Summary: Steer clear

- 17/09/09 Looks sexy but as a runner I just can't use the standard Apple headphones so I won't be upgrading. Not even for 1000 songs.
Thanks for the heads up. |
