Advantages: User friendly, compact, good sound quality, reasonable battery stamina

Disadvantages: The display screen is quite poor at displaying pictures

The iRiver E100 is immediately distinguishable as an elegantly designed audio and video player.

When using the supplied headphones, the sound quality is quite decent, with a reasonable high output power and being able to produce a range of frequency accurately. Upon using an additional pair of headphones, there was significant improvement in both frequency response and THD, making the sound superb.

In terms of size, it is not the smallest, being about average. In spite of that, the task of finding individual audio tracks, albums and artist is quite straightforward and simple. However the player is less suited to be used to watch videos for long periods of time, the occasional video is still bearable on the 38 x 49mm display screen. When viewing photos, they look quite basic and blunt, only barely satisfactory.

In addition to the bog-standard features. The player also has a few additional functions such as the ability to record voice memos and recording live FM radio.

The player also allows you to use it simultaneously while it is charging. If the internal memory is not sufficient for your needs, it can be increased by using an SD card.
Its battery stamina is quite good, providing about 20 hours on average of continuous audio playback and 5 hours of continuous video playback. The file transfer speed is only acceptable, on average taking over 0.15 seconds to transfer 10 megabytes of audio files. However, the player has quite a long start-up delay process.

The player is very simple and user friendly, but it is not possible to create a playlist without a computer. Its construction is sturdy and solid, meaning it is callable of withstanding the occasional drop or knock.
It only supports Windows XP and Windows Vista.

Summary: Quite a good package, if you only want if for music
