Advantages: Reasonable picture quality, user friendly

Disadvantages: Long start up process delay, not suitable for video

Simplicity and ease of use are the first two words that comes to mind when looking at the 4GB iRiver Lplayer.

The absent of buttons gives the player a zen appearance, since it uses touch screen as its control method. Based on the display screen, which is a TFT screen measuring 320 x 240 with backlight display. This is acceptable for viewing pictures, however the size of the display screen would make it unsuitable to watch videos for extended periods of time.

The are buttons that are used to control the volume, they are rather minute and slightly annoying to use, apart from the other bog standard features are fine. The menu structure has been well constructed, its search method makes it extremely east to find individual songs. Like any touch screen it does get rather "cloudy" due to oily fingers leaving fingerprints, other than that it works well.

When using the supplied headphones, the sound quality is only acceptable with nothing special. Upon using an additional pair of headphones with a higher output power, the sound was much more rich in bass.

The player supports audio files in the WMA, MP3, Flac and Ogg formats. However it is more complicated for videos, because the individual files would need to be converted beforehand for them to function properly. The process for the conversion is considerably slow which could be inconvenient.
The display screen is quite small, and the video quality is only acceptable.

Its battery stamina is slightly above standard, on average providing 17 hours of continuous audio playback, and 3 and a half hours of continuous video playback. It takes about 180 minutes to fully charge the player, which is slightly slower than average.

In addition to the standard features it also has extra functions such as capabilities to record FM radio and view photos as slideshows.

Summary: Definitely not suitable for heavy video users
