Intel Pocket Concert 128 MB ... part of the ripping/transfering application. So what saved the day? I was most impressed by the After Sales Service provided via telephone from Swindon. One 5 minute chat with "Miguel" and techno-dunce (ie. me) was off. Once Miguel explained that my existing ripped files were good enough for the Concert (a major source of relief because I was damned if I was going to spend another week re-ripping 1,500 songs to MusicMatch), and Miguel explained how to transfer files to the Concert via the Intel software... which was incredibly easy... Soulmate MP3 Player ... The unit comes with a docking station, which is actually a bit slow for downloading the MP3s as it runs through the parallel port, so it can take upto 20 minutes to download the full 48 megs!. The software you get with the Soulmate is Music Match Jukebox, which in itself is a very good media player for the PC. But be aware, the memory is NOT expandable the 48 megs is all you are going to get! Another word to the wise, once the batteries have been removed you only have a minute before the songs are wiped from the memory. MPULS3 ... and the build quality matches the price – Low. That said what do you expect for 50 quid? The player comes with a parallel printer lead to connect to your PC and software that works in a fashion on Win98, and not at all on Win ME. I have tried to get an updated version of the software but to no avail. Luckily I have a Compact Flash card reader so can use this to download music to the player otherwise I would be stuffed! The sound quality is reasonable and the battery life is 10+ hours. I found that using MP3 files compressed to 64kb produced results that were better than a tape player.
