      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Probably one of the best players to use whilst sporting activities

When looking at the SA2840 from a distance, it is hard to be certain whether it is really an MP3 player. Due to its zen styling, with minimal buttons protruding out of the player, giving it an elegant/clean style. Being rather compact and slim, it only weights 27 grams, but still armed with 4GB of space.

When using the supplied headphones, it produced a rather soft bass, that did not feel substantial enough. Upon using an additional pair of headphones with a higher output power, a more uniform bass and consistency was achieved. The player is compatible with all audio files in the DRM, WMA, M4A, WAV and MP3 file formats. In terms of file transfer speed, it is quite fast, on average taking a mere 4.9 seconds to transfer 10 megabytes of audio files.

Its battery stamina is brilliant, on average providing up to 44 and a half hours of continuous audio playback. When the batteries are completely drained out, it takes about 3 and a half hours to full recharge them again.

The ergonomically placed buttons, makes it easy to operate the player without even actually looking at it. However, there is a slight start up delay which is longer than the average.

      **Introduction**

I had been looking for a new mp3 player to replace my 20GB Acer which broke. Whilst looking for a new player I did not want to spend too much as I knew that I wanted to buy an Ipod in a few months time so this was basically just a stop gap until I had enough to purchase an Ipod. I searched around as I wanted something that had decent storage but was not too expensive for what it was. I looked at a number of players and eventually decided upon this mp3 player which I purchased today in Argos.

      **Philips GoGear SA2840**

The picture does not to justice to how small this player actually is. At only a few centimetres wide and high this is one of the smallest mp3 players I have seen. I bought mine for £29.99 from Argos but you could get this for a slightly higher price if you don't find it in the sale. It has a choice of a 2GB Model or this one which is 4GB. It has a small display which shows you the track you are listening to and also gives you easy to read menus when you are selecting your chosen track, artist or album.

      **Installation**

This is a really easy player to use and the installation is a doddle. All you need to do is insert the cd rom which comes with the player and it will automatically go through the process of downloading the relevant software etc which is needed for you to upload your chosen tracks to the mp3 player. Installation only last for a couple of minutes and then you are ready to start uploading your music files.

      **Uploading**

This is a really simple process too, simply drag and drop your chosen files into the folder or use Windows Media Player to sync your files to the player. Uploading the files is also a pretty quick process and is also very easy to do. With the 4GB Model you can typically upload around 2000 files onto your player which is not bad for something that costs just £29.99 when some at that price are just 1GB or even less in some cases.

      **The Sound**

Now here comes the all important verdict, It's nice to have a player that is easy to use but I'm sure most people would rather they had great sound quality rather than a player that is easy to use but has a weak sound. This is pretty impressive in terms of sound quality, Although it does not go that loud the music you can hear is detailed and the bass works well. You really need to swap the earphones for proper headphones and then you will notice what this player is capable of sound wise.

      **Battery Life**

When looking at MP3 players a key thing to look at is the battery life as you don't want it running out when you are using it as coach or train journeys can be really boring sometimes without music. This MP3 Player is chargeable via your usb port on your computer or laptop. With the battery fully charged up this player will typically give you a maximum of 27 hours of playback which is pretty good and I have seen very few players that top that by much. Just take into account that the battery life will go down if you are constantly scrolling the menu looking at the tracks.

      **Overall**

This is a very good little player which has a sound that is more than decent and has easy to use menus, everything is easy and quick and I would recommend this player as a spare for someone who has quite an expensive player like and Ipod or Archos or just as a little player if you don't listen to music much when you are out and about but would like to store a few hundred to two thousand tracks. A very good little player.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

For anyone who wants a music player with no pother.

Simply looking at this Philips mp3 player you can tell it's sleek and trendy, and at £39.99 for 4gb, it's a bargain.
The sound quality is fantastic, could definitely be better than an Ipod; and, in my view, less generic. The preset equaliser settings make it easy to adjust to what you're listening to.
Was very quick to set up and connect to get my first songs on there.
Of course, the size of it means that functions are limited; no playlist maker, no radio, no picture or video capability. The player itself can feel very cheap and flimsy in your hands, and the battery life for me was significantly less that what is specified (I got 11 hours). The recording function is good for quick memos (and for me singing laughs!), but sometimes was hard to hear, and there is no function to delete them after you save them.
However, if you simply want a mp3 player with no fuss and brilliant sound quality, look no further.
