First off, I have to say that this little MP3 player does far more than just playing music. It has all kinds of features that extend from putting you digital camera pics on to it, to playing video clips etc. Having said all that, I only wanted an MP3 player to connect up to the car stereo, so that is the basis that I bought it and judged it. That is also the only real experience I have of it, so I will just focus on that for this review. Overall I like it - it looks good, it is well made and good quality and still looks new, which is worth mentioning. The screen is clear and bright, and the menu for selecting music is clear and easy to work with. I used it to sync with napster to keep music on and play later in the car. You have to sync once a month to keep the napster music live. The sound is good, and it connects easily to the car, which is perfect for me. The only downside is battery life, but so long as you get a car charger, this is not a big problem.
This player looks good from all angles, with its brushed effect and sleek design. This styling and design gives the player an elegant and classy appearance which defines the image of its user. This player is laid out horizontally, which fine, because the controls are placed ergonomically on the right hand side of the player, its controls are responsive, making the player reasonably user friendly. Its reasonably large display seen also helps to make the player easier to operate and use. However if you are left handed it might be awkward to use the controls which are aligned to the right. In addition to the bog standard features, the player also has a range of additional functions including a clock, built-in microphone and also radio capabilities. When using the supplied headphones the sound is only acceptable with nothing special many because it lacked the clarity when playing highs, making it sound slightly distorted. Upon using an additional pair of headphones, a more define sound was achieved. This would be more noticeable if you often listen to classical music. In terms of battery stamina, it is quite good, on average providing up to 23 hours of continuous audio playback and up to 6 hours of continuous video playback. However, its charging time is quite long, taking up to 4 and a half hours to fully charge the player. Its file transfer speed is very fast, on average taking a mere 3 seconds to transfer 10 megabytes of audio files. There is also well written manuals supplied with the player, that makes it easy to get used to the player. The player supports both pictures and videos, whilst the screen size is decent for viewing picture, it is only suitable for watching the occasional video clip.
Enjoy video, photos and music on the move with the Philips SA60XX. This state-of-the-art portable video companion features a high quality 2.2" color display and up to 4 hours of video playtime.
