My Husband, kids and I have all owned a Phillips GoGear Vibe SA1VBE08 8GB MP3 players. Mine and my sons got broke quite a while back via accidents but my Husband and Daughters are still going strong. My Daughter has one in pink like the picture above and my Husbands is black.
At the time of purchase I paid around £60 each which was a fair price as they were purchased as Christmas presents. Phillips no longer produces this precise model but there are similar style MP3 players available.
==What does it look like?==
The Phillips GoGear Vibe looks and feels quite cheap and if not for the Phillips logo under the screen I would assume it was a cheap and cheerful no name item. The light little MP3 player weighs 34g so will not weigh your pockets down as it has no clip on facility and it is quite small in size 6.6 x 1.2 x 4.2 cm it will not bulk your pockets up either.
The GoGear Vibe is quite minimal looking consisting of a recessed soft touch control panel under the screen, a on/off/lock switch on the side, flush fitted volume and option buttons on the opposite side and a charging port and headphone port on the underside.
The LCD screen despite being small 3 x 3cm has quite a good display (128 x 12.8 pixels) for displaying album covers or just the menu options. Video and pictures can also be loaded onto the MP3 player provided you are using the correct formats which are MPEG4, WMA, WMV and MP3. In all honesty I had little success getting videos to play on the GoGear Vibe which was not much of an issue as these had been brought as music players.
==What is in the box==
Included in the box is a software mini cd, I did load this up initially and found it to be quite good, a lot better than the Sony software on one of my previous MP3 players but it did not take me long to discover it was easier to drag and drop MP3 files into the folders. If I remember correctly the instruction book was ok but not really necessary to read before using the MP3 player. Also in the box was a special charging/data transfer cable which is USB on one end and what looks like mini USB on the other, I say looks like as when we have tried a mini USB connection it has not fit. The cable is very short and when the MP3 player is plugged into a PC USB port the MP3 player just hangs in mid air, which is ok as it is so light.
==Ease of use==
Charging the MP3 player is simple it just needs plugging into a USB port and the onboard battery will start to charge. It takes around two hours for the MP3 player to charge which will give up to 25 hours music play back or 4 hours video play back. The MP3 player has been repeatedly charged and drained over the years and still gives around 25 hours of play back time so top marks Phillips for installing a good onboard battery.
The non expandable on board 8GB of memory is excellent for holding around 2000 songs depending on song length and quality. I have never run out of space so would consider 8GB more than enough. Tracks are easy to drag and drop onto the MP3 player and are just as easy to delete.
Playback is excellent. I find the sound to be crystal clear through my Skull Candy Titans. The GoGear did come with a set of standard in-ear ear phones from Phillips; these were quite good but were soon discarded in favour of others.
Finding the tracks you want on the MP3 player is simple as the menus are basic and it is easy to skip, pause and replay tracks using the control panel on the front of the MP3 player. The lock button on the side is great for stopping me skipping through tracks when listening to the MP3 player or accidentally turning it on when it is meant to be off.
My family and I are quite hard on technology hence the 50% survival rate of our GoGear Vibes. They have been through the washing machine, in the pool, dropped, trod on and just plain lost. The two surviving GoGears are looking a little the worse for wear after roughly 5 years of solid use but despite this are still going strong and as such I would not hesitate to buy one of these again if at the right price.
The Phillips GoGear Vibe is a solid little bit of technology. It has no wi-fi or blue tooth technology but does have a FM radio which gives reasonable reception and my daughter delighted in listening to when she was younger.
