Advantages: Compact and lightweight, radio capabilities

Disadvantages: Terrible file transfer, bad battery stamina, not widely compatible with other operating systems,

Upon first setting your eyes on the Philips 3115, its reasonably sleek and aesthetic design would cause you to have high hopes for the player. Unfortunately, that's the only thing that is decent about it.

It only weights about 41 gram, which is quite light, especially for an MP4 player. However, it comes with the compromise of having a rather small screen only measuring 2.8 x 3.5 centimetres. At this size and resolution, it is reasonable for displaying track information but not merely good enough to be used to watch videos or view pictures.

When using the supplied headphones, there were no high hopes either. Since it had a terrible signal to noise ratio and a disappointingly low output power, even when turning up the volume, the sound still lacked clarity. Upon using an additional headphones, the sound quality was improved considerably, giving a more acceptable quality of sound.

In addition to the bog standard features, this player also has a FM radio that is built it and has a reasonable reception. It can also support quite a few file formats. Its file transfer speed is rather dreadful, on average, taking 0.3 minutes to transfer 10 megabytes of audio files.

Its controls are similar to the ones found on Ipods, which are a scroll wheel, this performs the task effectively and easily without any hassle. However if you have slightly larger fingers, you might find it challenging to use this control easily. Its battery stamina is again quite disappointing, on average only providing 9 hours of continuous audio playback from a full charge which takes about 2 and a half hours, however it does not support the use of mains power, instead you must charge it via USB.

Summary: A player that has pretty much failed in all aspects, ideal if you get better headphones
