Advantages: Sleek & sexy design, easy to use, reliable, top quality
Disadvantages: None
I've been through a couple of MP3 players now as I listen to mine quite often, especially in my car (through a cassette adapter), but have found that after a while they all seem to encounter a technical fault. The Samsung YP-K3JQR is the best I've had, and still have it now after 12 months, and think it's fantastic.
... General Product ...
I came across this in Argos last year for around £65. Samsung is a very popular manufacturer who always seem to create stylish, practical and reliable products. This MP3 player is slimline and touch-screen, measuring approx. 96mm in height, 44mm in width and 7mm in depth. At only 50gms it's perfect to put in your pocket as it's small and lightweight. I got mine in black but it's available in other colours as you can see in the picture, and has a glossy finish with a silver trim. The 1.8" colour LED display has a 160 x 128 resolution and is powered by a rechargeable lithium battery. To charge it you simply connect to your PC via the USB cable (pc only needs to be on standby to work). The memory space is 2Gb which can sstore MP3, WMA, ASF and JPEG so you can put a mix of music and photos on there. It also has an integrated FM tuner.
... Usability ...
Not only is the main product design sexy, but so is the screen and the menu options. The touch screen is designed perfectly with the options well spaced so even if you have bigger fingers it's easy to use. It's sensitive to the touch but not overly so, and therefore you get to your desired option straight away. Playing, pausing, browsing and selecting options is quick and simple, I've never had any problems with any glitches, it always runs smoothly. It's easy to navigate with a well laid out menu allowing you to flick between music, radio, settings, photos etc. Unlike with Sony MP3s which use Sony specific software to download music from your PC to your MP3, the file transfer on the Samsung is quick and simple. The easiest way of doing it is through dragging and dropping your music/photos in Windows Media Player by syncing it to your MP3.
... Quality ...
The headphones that come with this are the in-ear type and are comfortable and allow you to hear you music at a great quality. The sound is clear and the settings on the MP3 allow you to change your output preferences. The MP3 itself, although sleek & sexy, is still very sturdy. It's not tacky in any way, and the glossy finish and silver edging have said in tact with only minor scratching as expected when it lives in my handbag!
... Overall ...
The price of MP3s is constantly dropping and the memory size is forever expanding, so if you want something with huge storage you could probably get a very decent MP3 with more space for just a few pennies more. However, I find this holds plenty of tracks and because it's so easy to download files onto the MP3 I change my music whenever I want so there's no need to upgrade to an MP3 with a bigger capacity. It looks fantastic, works quickly and efficiently, is extremely reliable and is very easy to use... in my opinion, this is a top-notch MP3 player!
Summary: Excellent MP3 player... 12 months on & it's still working perfectly! :)
