Samsung is a well known Korean brand, and is very experienced in creating a wide range of electronic products for the home. This portable MP4 player is no different, and is a worthy contender for the iPod touch.

The design is flawless, with an immensely stylish rectangular shape, sharp edges and smooth crisp curves. The screen is large, measuring 3 inches, taking up the front of the player. There are no other buttons on the front as it is entirely touch screen.

On the top are volume inc. and dec buttons, aswell as the ON and Hold button. These are small, discreet yet manageable and easy to use. Also on the top is a small yet powerful mic to play your music out loud!

The interface is great, with large app icons, which you can freely move around and play with. The backround is also customisable. It has fun widgets such as a gingerbread man you can tap and break, butterflies flying around your screen, and more...

The player comes in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacities, with a wide range of features and tools:

Main Features:

Music- This is the main section for listening to music, supports a range of formats, including mp3 and wma. The sound is amazing, it is loud enough for headphones at vol level 2, and for speaker about 5 if quiet. It would surely be great for outdoors if you ever want a picnic and want to listen to music! It also has street mode, Vibe woofer, and Dsne for different effects!

Video- The video option allows for video playback of many different file types, as the software includes a video convertor! The screen is flawless and looks great with any video. I have had no problems with this feature, and it plays extremely smoothly. There are also subtitle input features.

Radio- It is a normal radio feature, where you use the headphones as your reception antenae and steam radio stations. The reception is abit unclear at times, and difficult to find "the spot" where it is perfect, but nevertheless a good feature and works 80% of the time. You can also record from any radio station too! which i think is an immense feature!

Images- This is basically photo album, and shows any images you have in a clear coloured screen looks fantastic. There is a slideshow feature and you can use your picture as a background.

Additional features:

Games- It has a range of fun games, but not super. The best one is the bubble pop one, where you have to pop the bubble wrap. However, it is a small screen, and it is abit fiddly to play. I avoid them, and only when im super bored to i venture to play, but never play more than a few minutes.

Voice Record- You can record your voice and radio as i mentioned before, and play it back.

Text- You can put documents or text into the player to read, and with text to speech, you can have it read to you! The range of languages available make this great for language learning, and if you have audiobooks, this is fantastic.

Calculator- A simple calculator

DataCast- You can subscribe to datacasts online, from blogs or news sites, and everytime you load your player on the computer, it will download them onto your player, so you can listen to it later!

Address book- Bluetoothing contacts between phone to the p3.

Rail Map- Railmaps for many cities around the world, including London, and many US cities.

Sketch Book- A paint like pad, included with firmware 2.07 only

Dictionary- Dictionary only available with different regions (eg Korea)

Alarm Clock- A basic alarm clock feature, where you can set the time and it will ring when it is that time. You can switch your player off and it will ring when the time has come. You can also choose any of your music files as an alarm sound!

Bluetooth- With bluetooth you can pair up to other P3s to play games, or to any Bluetooth device to transfer files. It is also possible to replace your mobile phone through bluetooth, with calls being sent to the P3 instead! This feature is immense, as my mobile is old and somewhat dysfunctional, so this will be great!

Overall, the design of the player is impeccable, it is stylish, simple and sleek. The interface is easy to use, and navigate. The features are acceptable, although a few more i touch apps would be good, yet it does have a FLASH player, so anyone good with flash will be able to generate apps for themselves and others.

The battery life is great. It takes about 4-5 hours to charge on the PC, and will last me atleast 30 hours of music, depending on the volume.. but if i watched one 2 hour video a day along with music, it wud last about 3 days.

It has a good regular firmware updates (almost 5 to date), all increasing speed and solving problems etc, which is great support from Samsung.

The 16GB player can be bought on play.cm for 139.99 and that is a great price and bargain for an original, stylish and reliable product. Stand out of the crowd with your Samsung!
