Advantages: expandable, good sound quality, easy to use, nice looking, big screen
Disadvantages: can freeze on large playlists, software issues
After my reliable little iRiver 4gb got filled up, I found myself in the market for a new MP3 player. I am a heavy commuter, I travel for 3 hours a day, and so was looking for something that could offer good battery life, a large capacity, and a video player.
When is started my search i was concerned by the price of large capacity MP3 players, and so decided too look for one which was expanable. There are plenty of MP3 players on the market that offer SD card compatability, such as iRiver and creative zen. But after some reasearch i found out that some of these players were slow too read the card or had battery issues and so i found myself with the Sansa View. The Sansa view is manufactured by the same people who make the SD crads, Sandisk, and so their card compatability is not an issue.
When I first got the player, what i first noticed was how much like an ipod it looks, only that it is much cheaper. The player itself is easy to use, and has a scroll wheel for going though the playlists of music, or turning the volume up and down. The top bottom, right and left of the wheel act as push buttons for menu, skip, play and pause, and their is a home button.
For sound quality, I cannot fault the player, and for video play back too, the player is astounding.
Thats not to say that their are not issues with the player.
Firstly, the software that it comes with to convert videos into videos for use on the Sansa View is useless, it will freeze and cause problems. I found that using the Any Video Convert on Ipod settings and dragging and dropping works perfectly, so this problem can be over come. Secondly, when listening to a large playlist, 1000+ songs, the player some times freezes when trying to skip. The screen will freeze but the music will keep on playing, i don't know why this is, probably because of the size of the play list.
Other than those two issues, I have had no problems with the player, and have found it to be real value for money, compared to the ipod equivalent. I have yet to use my SD card to expand the memory, so I cannot comment on how seamless the integration is, as I have still not filled the 8gb of space on the player.
Summary: The sansa view is a good player, which still has some bugs in it.
