Advantages: Cheap price, and looks great

Disadvantages: Small memory size

This is an excellent MP 3 player, and I think that it is a much needed, serious compteitor to Apple's Ipod.

It looks stylish, and comes in different colours (black, blue and pink!).

The screen is pretty small, only offering one line of information at a time, but looks quite funky, as it has a bright blue text LED display. Unlike the Ipod you cant see more than one song at a time, meaning you have to shuffle a lot to see what is coming next. But it really isnt a problem once you get used to it.

This small MP3 is great as it is very simple to use, and no need for wires ( I used to always lose and get my Ipod wires tangled!) It has a USB port at one end - Simply plug it straight into your computer's USB port and you can tranfer tunes and charge the device at the same time.

The NWE005 offers 2GB of storage - which is roughly equivalent to 90 CD's worth of songs. This is more than enough for me, but for some it certainly wouldnt be enough space.

The Lithium Ion battery lasts for 30 hours! I wasnt sure if it was true when I read it on the box, but it is! What is more, you can plug it in for 5 minutes to get 3 hour charge!

You can load on songs on via Sonic Stage which is Sony's version as Itunes. If you look at reveiw sites, it does get some bad press, but I have found it very easy to use, and hasnt crashed at all. I think the earlier versions had bugs, which now seem to have been resolved.

Sonic stage also incorporates its 'Connect store' where, like Itunes, you can purchase songs to download (legally!)

The sound quality from the device is excellent, and it is very easy to use, with only a few buttons. Im no techy expert, and didnt even have to look at the instructions!

All in all, this is a fantastic product, which certainly gives the Ipod a run for its money. Its direct USB technology and long battery life certainly wins over the Ipod's offering.

The downside is that the screen is a bit small and limited, and the memory size may put some off.

You can buy it for a very reasonable price - I got mine for £89 at John Lewis!

Cheers.

Summary: This great MP3 from Sony has several advantages over the Ipod. I love it!

Tried using sonic stage on my old Minidisc i have lying in my drawer and its a total pain.
Sony are as bad as Apple however, both crap products.
Sure you have to convert all you mp3 files to their own format or they dont play, just like apple. Had to with minidiscs and i'm positive thats why they never took off too strong. Converting with modern PC's takes seconds, back then it was like a minute a track, so an album or album collection was murder. Possibly a similar situation with older PCs some may have still, with say 256Mb ram.

Also, i bought a 2Gb player online for £40 for my mum. Not as pretty (just looks like a usb stick) but all you do is plug in, and drag and drop .mp3 files into the "removable device" folder that comes up and hey presto.
No software, hell of a lot easier, and less than half the price.

For the review, felt it wasnt indepth enough thats all.
We know it looks nice, but functionality of the software and lots of others, ie. is it compatible with other music stores, does it require converting .mp3 files etc.
