Advantages: Well made, easy to use, exercise friendly
Disadvantages: Need software to transfer music
I purchased the sony NW-E005 to replace an ipod nano which finally gave up the ghost after being drowned countless times.
On first impressions, whilst it may not have the ipod's looks the sony appears well built with its glossy body and liquid crystal display, it is also tiny being only just bigger than the average USB pen drive.
Transferring music onto the player is unfortunately not as simple as drag and drop, instead relying on Sony's own Sonic stage software. Whilst this is not as infuriating as Itunes, it does mean you need to use the same computer everytime to update it.
Playing wise the player is the usual sony high quality, however the headphones supplied leak noise horrendously so an noise cancelling in ear pair greatly improve both sound quality and volume. The buttons are easy to use, I can change songs with one hand when cycling so it is ideal for use whilst exercising.
Navigation is simple, songs can be sorted by album, artist or playlist and there is a shuffle function. The screen is quite small and unfortunely cannot be seen at all in bright sunlight, fortunately such an occurrance is rare in the UK!
Altogether a compact and very effective mp3 player, which although lacks the bells and whistles of other is well built and dependable.
Summary: Neat compact and well made player, great for exercising
