Advantages: great sounds, small and compact, easy to use

Disadvantages: enough memory but more would be nice

I received a Sony nw-e407 Walkman as a gift Christmas (2005). As I had never owned an mp3 player before I was starting from scratch. I found the whole process of software installation surprisingly straight forward and easy.

Memory

This player has an internal one gigabyte flash memory, capable of storing 47 hours of muisic dependant on sound quality (bitrate). the majority of tracks that i have stored are at 190(bitrate).This is good enough quality for a portable device and has aloude me to store round about 400 tracks. once you have stored your tracks (mentioned later). They can be played skiped and scaned using the rotary switch alocated on the top of the player. you can also choose random play mode or programe mode witch allows you to choose the album or track order of play.

Charging:

The mp3 player charges straight from the usb port on your pc. The charging process is very swift as 1 minutes charge will give you roughly 1 hours playback up to a maximum of 50 hours.

Importing cds and mp3s

The program sonic stage comes with this package. This is a very straightforward and fast way of converting and transferring media. Once the program is installed on your home pc (about five minuets) you will be able to scan and import any media on your pc. The length of time this takes varies dependant of file sizes and quantity. After the scan is complete sonic stage will create an archive of your media and organise the files into artists and albums. To transfer to your media player firstly connect to your usb. This will now automatically load the sonic stage transfer screen. The screen will be split into two halves the right being an archive of all your imported files. On the left will be your media player info. This shows all the tracks contained on the internal memory, memory used and free memory. Between the two columns are two buttons import and export. Now select all the track of the left column (pc hard disk) then click the export button. At this point the new tracks will be shown in the right column (mp3 player). Next to the tracks will be percentage completed when this shows complete for each track you can disconnect your player and listen to you tracks. The whole process of transferring an album takes about seven minuets for twelve tracks.

Sound

The sound quality is excellent with three settings for extra base. I take it to work, use it whilst jogging and sporting activities and it never skips or jumps track. Its excellent must have accessory.

You say more about the software than you do about the player which is what people will want to know about - if it has 1GB of space how many songs is that? Are there different features on the player? Is it easy to find tracks you want to play - does it randomise tracks? How good a quality is it? Does it hold other file types? Things like that will be more use to people than the software.
