This is a flash memory based portable media player, this will play audio as well as video and because it is flash memory it means that file transfer and navigation will be quick and easy unlike the slow responde that you can sometimes get on the iPod classic. The slim, thin sony erriccson-like design means that it will slide into almost any pocket and is perfect for exercise, simple large easy to understand buttons means that navigation is simple (even for those of us that may have larger than average fingers). It's batter life is amazing, it claims to play for 48 hours of music but i found I got 45 hours of continuous music playback. Not only that but its great for watching videos on the go, it even comes with a small fold out stand that tucks away neatly into the back of the device after you are done with it. It's ana amazing little thing, although the small screen does make it difficulty for long hours of watching, possible not the best of devices for watching movies on an aeroplane. The earphones that come with the player are amazing and they definitely bring ut the true potential of the player, unlike the cheap headphones you get with apple devices, these are in ear headphones are are superior to the apple ones. However one feature that is missing from the pervious generation is the noise cancelation feature and also the on the go playlists, which made this a fun little device. Instead, they have given it tiny speakers and an oversized screen. However the largest problem is that transcoding large video files can be a pain as it takes a long time.
It is not an upgrade from the previous generation of walkman but is a new device on its own. A high quality audio and video player that looks like a phone.
I have had this MP3 player for around 6 months, and am very happy with it. The screen is large and bright, and the player is extremely easy to use and navigate. The product is thin and easy to slip into a pocket or bag. On the side is a "hold" button which stops you from accidently pressing buttons when listening to music, a switch to change between headphones and speakers, and volume buttons. All are large and easy to press.
I have split this review into sections, covering the main features of the product.
Listening to music is the main reason I use the product and I am happy with how it performs. Downloading music from the computer is very easy - simply connect the device, open Windows Media Player and drag the tracks that you want into the "Sync" list. Once downloaded, music can be arranged by album, artist, genre or release year. The player has all the usual options for listening- bass, classical, voice, etc, and has different modes such as shuffle and repeat. The sound quality is very good and the supplied earphones are not bad. One downside is the fact that you cannot make playlists on the MP3 player, you have to download them, but this is a minor problem.
As with music, it is easy to download pictures to the player. You can then scroll through them, change the orientation and set them to play as a slideshow. I like this feature as it makes it easy to show photos to people without taking a large camera or printing.
The player supports videos in various formats and plays them well - I have never experienced any problems with playback and the quality is pretty good. As with pictures you can change the orientation. Due to the screen size I only ever watch short clips, under 10 minutes long, which is all I really want on an MP3 player anyway.
The voice recording is fun, easy to use and fairly good quality - I don't use it often but it is a nice feature to have.
Again, this is not a feature I use very often, but it is useful for showing music and video to friends. The volume and sound quality is better than I expected, especially for such a small MP3 player.
The battery is charged via a USB cable which is easy and convenient. The battery lasts for a long time, especially with the screen brightness reduced.
Overall, a great product I would happily reccomend.
