      Advantages

      • Reliability

      Disadvantages

The advantages should overcome the disadvantages, especially if your main focus is music.

If you're looking for a good portable mp3 device, the Sony Walkman would not be a bad option. It's nice size (not too big, not too small), has good sound quality, and possesses a good, user-friendly interface with arrows keys for navigating menus, adjusting volume, switching songs, etc. It has a nice sturdy frame to provide great durability, so it should not break if you drop it occasionally and such. If the device stops responding for whatever reason (similar to an ipod's recovery mode), you can just grab a narrow material like a paper clip and press the reset button, and it should be fixed with virtually no hassle.

Though this product has many positive aspects, it does have some downsides. Although the button arrangements are ideal overall, they are somewhat clumped together on the front of the device (so you may accidentally press the play button instead of the left arrow key for example). Additionally, although it contains photo and video features, the screen is pretty small and the quality is not spectacular. Plus, the default headphones that it comes with are not very comfortable, so you may have to replace them. In general, however, it's a very respectable product.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

This player is good as a whole, perfect for users that want to use it primarily for audio playback

The Sony NWZ-A815 is a player that focus on simplicity and style, where less is more. The slim and compact player is quite well designed, with its matt black finish that bring a sense of elegance and style.

When using the supplied headphones, the sound quality was quite good, with a good level of bass. Upon using an additional pair of headphones, there was little improvement in sound quality overall, mainly due to the fact that the supplied headphones is already quite good. However, the length of the supplied headphone is rather short which could make it uncomfortable.

Its battery stamina is impressive, on average providing up to 45 hours of continuous audio playback and about 8 hours of continuous video playback. It takes around 120 minutes to fully charge the player, which is no doubt good, considering the length of its playback.

The display screen is clear and shows both photos and videos in high quality, however it is stil not perfect for watching videos for long periods of time.

Its file transfer speed is not amazingly fast, but it is still decent. The menu structure is well designed and laid out, which makes it easy to navigate around and use all of the player's features to the fullest. The player has a good quick start guide and instruction manual included, which makes it easy to familiarize yourself and set up the player initially. The player supports all audio files in the ACC, MP3 and WAV file formats.

      Thoroughly recommended

I wanted an alternative to an ipod to avoid both itunes restrictions and also at the time the nanos did not play video. After much searching, and I regret to say it thinking about the "coolness" factor, I bought this and have not since regretted it.

It is bigger than an ipod nano but is definitely not any sort of brick! It looks cool and when I bought mine came in three colours black, white and pink. As with most Sony items, the build quality is excellent and it certainly does not look tacky or cheap.

The controls are intuitive and easy to use and there are a good range of usual music functions such as playlists and playing sonfs with certain ratings it can perform.

What really clinched the deal for me at the time was the ability to play video. A 2" screen does not sound very big at all but I have watched full length films on there on the move without feeling I was missing out. At 2GB storage size however, you are not going to get too many films on the flash drive although there are models with a larger storage size (and price) available. For someone who just wants to listen to music and has an average size collection 2GB is ample and you can always swap films or videos over.

When I brought mine, you had to use Sony's SonicStage program to convert and transfer any music on to the player and this was a bit of a nightmare. It was slow and annoying to use but the good news is that now you can just plug the player in and drag and drop files on to it.

Buy it if you want a cheap mp3 player, but there are better models out

This is copied from my Ciao account d15549 - http://www.ciao.co.uk/Sony_Walkman_NWZ_A815_2_GB_Black__Review_5777785

This is a great MP3 player for people who want really good audio quality, and do not want to pay a premium for an iPod.
The sound quality of this M P 3 player is one of the best, and the supplied ear phones are excellent.

The LCD is a decent size to view artist info, and watch short clips. It is not amazing if you want to watch videos - I would recommend buying a PSP or an Archos (or something similar) if you want to watch a lot of movies on the go!
The battery life is better than most of the competitors on the market, with it lasting over 24 hours with it constantly on.

The only thing I don't like is the design when compared to the iPods, however, the buttons do add to the ruggedness of the player.
The software is not too bad - it is quite slow compared to itunes and windows media player. These cannot be used, only the software supplied can be used!
