My wife bought me this MP3 player a year ago. She bought it for me because I complained a lot on how my phone battery would die so quickly when I listen to music. She bought this for me in order to stop me complaining. She managed to get the device for around £60
It does look quite good, the text on the buttons are clear and easy to see. The buttons feel a bit flimsy and at times they would not recognise your input so you would need to press down quite hard in order for it to register. It is a nice small device, fairly light, doesn't show when you place it in your pocket. The buttons on the side of the device are quite small, I have giant like hands in which most of the time I would be able to press both the volume up and volume down button at the same time. It fits the palm of your hand easily. It is a rugged design I have dropped it a couple of times and it has only left a little scratch on the body. The USB port is located at the bottom of the device. You can get the device in a variety of colours such as black, red, pink and blue. My wife got me the pink version, and I most say it looks really good. It has a standard 3.5mm headphone jack is also located at the bottom next to the USB port.
The device is really easy to set up. Copying music files and video files is really easy, you just need to plug in the device to your computer then drag and drop the files to the device. That's it, there is no need to download any software. When you are listening to music you have the option to change the EQ, I have experimented with this a lot and found that putting everything to max gives the best sound output. The system menu is easy to browse, everything is clear, and easy to understand. There are quite a few icons:
Music library - you have several menus such as artist, album, playlists and songs. You use the 4 directional buttons to navigate around the menus. You press the play/pause button to play/pause the music. The music is split into alphabetic sections. you have the normal options for playing music such as repeat, shuffler, shuffle all, and repeat 1 song.
Video - you can watch videos and look at images that are on the device. You can also purchase or rent videos from Amazon Video on Demand.
Time - you can change the time and date
Radio - you can listen to the FM radio, it has an auto scan feature which will find the local radio stations and allocate them in the 30 slots. This MP3 player does not support podcast.
Recording - you have the option to record stuff, as it has a built in microphone, so you can record record anything you want and play it back.
I have not yet tested the Amazon video on Demand feature yet, but I will update this review when I have experimented with it.
When browsing through the menu you have the back button which will take you to the previous menu that you were on, to switch on/off the device you will need to hold the option button for at least 3 seconds.
The sound quality is great, I had to buy new headphones as the one that came with the device did not fit in ear, so I bought a pair of JVC headphones. With the use of the EQ you can adjust the music to your liking, you can increase the bass, you can increase the voice etc. there are a variety of options that allow for customisation of the sound output. The outputted sound is very crisp and clear, everything is detailed, and you can hear every instrument in the song.
Image and video quality
The picture quality is great it is very crisp and clear, even with the small screen you can see everything clearly. It is the same thing with videos everything is clear the sound is perfect, the colour contrast is great you can see everything is detail.
For music it supports MP3 and WMA. For photos it supports JPEG and PNG. for videos it supports WMV and MPEG-4. You will need to make sure that the video size is 240*320 otherwise it will not play the video.
The battery life is phenomenal I would go 5 days without it needing to be charged. I would listen to music for about 2 - 5 hours a day when travelling to work.
This is a great MP3 player, I have the 8GB model and I have not yet ran out of space, I have over 500 songs stored on the device and quite a few images, I got rid some of the videos in order to save some space for the music. It is easy to copy over your song files. It is light to hold and it doesn't stick out when you put it in your pocket. It is easy to use, the sound quality is great and the image/video quality is great. The pink model in my opinion looks the best out of the other colours. The battery is life is phenomenal can go days without charge, and it doesn't take long to transfer files over to it. I would defiantly recommend this device, it is absolutely great.
I have owned this for a months and I must say that it is amazing. It is defiantly the ipod-killer of this year. Although it doesn't have the click wheel system it is much better in the fact that its sound processing is much more clearer and punches more out of my MP3 files. It can also view Iplayer videos which is very useful although due to the small screen size i wouldn't heartily recommend it and you shouldn't buy this product based on that fact. The supplied headfones aren't very good and you should invest in good in ear headfones. It is very strong and although it is a bit plasticky it can easily survive a 10 foot drop without cracking. I would buy a cover with the object as it does scratch easily that is why i wouldn't view videos on it. The software supplied is also not very good therefore I would drag and drop songs.
Quick Update : 7 months later and still going strong but the front faceplate is coming off as the glue used wasn't very strong so durability may be an issue.
