Advantages: Sound Quality, Battery life, Memory.
Disadvantages: Only USB charging provided.
What a fantastic little MP3 player, Sony Walkman have an old skool charm associated to back with their cassette players and then cd players, relaunching the brand into mp3 players and as part of their mobile brand has really revitalised the company and brought about serious competition for the previous all conquering Apple Ipod.
Slim, stylish and light the Sony NWZ is hugely versatile and able to fit into even the tightest pockets, without the same touchwheel of the Ipod it means you dont have to worry about random track album changes from sliding in and out, using a 4 way scroll circle and a raised play/pause button it's simplistic and allows for play without accidental changes.
Pre-packed with a pair of In-ear sony earphones (£34 if sold seperately.) the sound quality is immense, Blowing that of the Ipod with standard Ipod earphoens out of the water, sound going up to a maximum of 30 you rarely find yourself venturing past 10.
Sorting your music collection into all tracks, albums or artists really makes choosing or finding a particular album to play easy, and also allows for artist and album art to be displayed.
Transferring songs from your computer is done via the very simple and highly applaudable drag and drop method, USB and USB 2 support allow this process to be completed quickly, without having to install extra programmes (sony package a programme with it but you don't need this)
Capable of video playback, and the ability to download and install shows from BBC Iplayer means cathcing up on shows is simple, the screen whilst not the biggest (2") provides crystal clear video playback and for the size of the player excels in quality.
Battery life is another very strong quality of the SONY NWZ, usually requiring only 1 charge a week for my use which equates to around 20-25 hours music playback with most extra features (bass amplifier etc) turned on.
Cheaper than most Ipods and unrivalled in price by 16GB versions makes the SONY NWZ a logical choice not only for sound quality but also value for money and memory.
I would recommend this to anyone over an Ipod anyday, whilst the Ipod is the "in" thing and is a quality products the Sony not only matches this but exceeds it.
Summary: Beats the Ipod hands down.
