Advantages: User friendly, radio capabilities, quite good sound quality

Disadvantages: Supplied software is hard to use, does not support photos, poor battery stamina

Upon first setting your eyes on the Transcend T.sonic 520, its compact size would lead you to have high hopes for a great little package. The player is roughly about the size of a packet chewing gum, it still has a rather reasonably size display screen, the colour display is quite good, with quite a bright display that makes it easier to use the player in the dark.

The player is quite user friendly, and there is a good software that is supplied. When using the supplied headphones, its sound quality is of an average quality. The supplied headphones also comes with a strap that can be fitted around your neck, which can be used to hold the player securely on your neck. The max volume is not limited, therefore listening to the player at full volume continuously for long periods of time can damage your hearing.

There isn't a built in battery in the player, instead it uses an AAA battery. On average, one AAA battery can provide up to 9 and a half hours of continuous audio player, this would obviously vary from different brands, models and type of battery. The construction of the player is sturdy and robust, meaning that it will be capable of taking the occasional knock or drop.

In addition to the bog standard features, the player also has extra functions such as a microphone and radio capabilities. You can also record from either the microphone as a voice recorder or record directly from the radio. However, the player's display screen means that it is not capable of showing pictures.

The player supports audio files in the WMA and MP3 format. Its file transfer speed is quite fast, on average taking about 2.85 seconds to transfer 10 megabytes of audio files. Although the player has a USB port, there is not USB cable supplied. The player is only compatible with Window Vista and Window XP operating systems.

Summary: This player is quite a reasonable player as a whole. However, there are many better alternatives.
