Tesco Value CR-106 Clock Radio
by 85fiona
Have had this clock for a number of years now for use in my bedroom just as a clock, don't need and alarm (use my phone) and don't need a radio (don't listen to the radio) just want to be able to glance over at my bedside table in the middle of the night and know the time.
The clock itself is black with silver buttons and the ... numbers are lit up in red so is easy to see when its dark. The size of the clock is quite small with a speaker on top. It can be used as a an alarm clock or just a radio, but based on its size and sounds quality (acceptable but not brilliant) it would be more suitable to be used just as an alarm clock on your bedside table. The controls are easy to use and it plugs into the mains or you can use batteries to power it. The cost as I recall was less than a fiver so you cant really go wrong at that price.
The buttons on the clock are large, particularly the snooze button (handy if you like a bit longer in bed in the morning!). It is easy to set the time and the alarm on it and all of the buttons are clearly marked so even if you lose the instructions should be easy to work out how to use it.
Have only had one minor problem with this clock, it started making a buzzing noise recently (it is fairly old though, at least 5 years) I sorted that by placing it on something soft. I am quite a light sleeper, so it wasn't really buzzing that loud but it did my head in!
It is a cheap looking clock so you are not going to win any interior design awards with it, but if you just want something to tell you the time and wake you up in the morning and don't want to break the bank then this is ideal Read the complete review |

Philips AJ 210

I had been thinking for some time that I needed to invest in a new alarm clock, I had been relying on my mobile phone as my alarm clock and I had no reason to complain about this method as it had never let me down but the actual alarm was a loud piercing sound and not one that I enjoyed hearing first thing, I am much happier to be woken ... up by the radio and at a volume that I could control! I had no idea where to start really and as my other half was coming with me at least I had his knowledge as well, we started off by looking in the Argos catalogue and stumbled upon the Philips AJ210 clock radio and after a little research on the product we decided to invest and after about 3 months of using this, here are my thoughts.
I mentioned above that I got the clock radio from Argos; I had some vouchers to use in the store so always a good start when you have some money knocked off your purchase. At full price you will be looking at paying around the £32 to £35 mark for this product which in my opinion is not to bad a price. The product can be found on eBay as well as other high street retailers such as Comet and Curry's. Amazon is currently out of stock of the product.
The clock radio came really well packaged and once open it was very easy to set up. There was a one year manufacturer's guarantee as well as a good information booklet and useful instructions on how to get going with this product. The product itself is a really sleek looking design and I like that it has a minimal look to it. The dimensions for this rectangular clock radio are w 16.8cm / d 4.3 cm / h 10.6cm. I have a bedside table that sits nicely on and I still have room for my lamp and a book etc. I can best describe the look as almost a screen sat on a background. The alarm clock is chrome in colour and the display screen which is an LCD display has the time on the left hand side and below this is the frequency of whichever radio station you have one. On the right hand side of the display is a weather display, telling you the temperature and what the weather is doing on at the present time. The only other writing is a Philips logo in black writing at the base of the clock.
The display is a white light up on and when I wake up it is really easy to read. The fact that this clock tells you the weather is really good, I do find myself glancing towards it as I am starting to wake up and so far it has been really accurate. The clock lights up as well so even in the middle of the night when I wake I can always tell the time.
The radio part of this clock is also impressive, it comes with 10 preset stations and I wither listen to my local station or radio one and it has no problem in finding either of these. There is a single speaker that comes with the clock and whilst I have the volume quite low to wake up to, I also like to listen to the radio on when getting ready to go out and even when the volume is turned up the radio stations do not sound distorted.
The clock radio will run off batteries and it will take 4 AAA ones, I tend to use the power adaptor though as the thought of the batteries running out and me not having an alarm is a worry! The overall appearance and design is one that has really impressed me. You can have an alarm noise, there are 2 buzzing ones to choose from but I do prefer the radio to wake me.
In summary, I have nothing but praise for this product, an excellent radio that doubles as my alarm.
5 out of 5

Tesco Value CR-106 Clock Radio
by ruby_xo
I have this clock by the side of my bed on my bedside table. This is the perfect place for it as it has an alarm on which I set now and again to wake me up in the morning. I only use it now and again as I will normally use the alarm on my phone, but if this has been on charge overnight or if the battery is low I will use the alarm on ... this radio instead.
The time is in large red numbers on the front of this radio which stand out bright as they are lit and also because they are bright red which contrasts with the black radio. So you can still see the time even in the middle of the night when it is pitch black. I know some people can't sleep with any light on in their room so I would not recommend this clock for those people, because this gives off a red glow in the dark which would probably keep them awake. This also makes a noise, nothing loud or anything but you know that really, really quiet, discreet sort of whirry noise that all electrical appliances emit when they are on. So if you had really sensitive hearing as well you might not want this clock. However you can hardly hear this.
The buttons are on the top of the clock and as they are big they are easy to press in the morning when you have just got up and haven't fully reached consciousness yet, I have had this a while so know by now by memory which button is which but otherwise there are names by each button, these are written really small though so some people might need their glasses on to read what each one is. Also these words don't light up in the dark, however there is enough glow off the red time which lights up enough so if you eat a lot of carrots you might just be able to work out what each one is. It is easy to set the time and alarm and also very easy to tune this radio to your favourite stations as well.
The speaker is also on the top of this clock, this clock is overall quite small so can fit in most places however like I say the best place is probably somewhere close to your bed. This is just plain black and not a very decorative design, it is from the Tesco Basics range after all so what can you expect, it fills a purpose which is a handy radio alarm clock. M The volume is quite low so if you like blaring music look elsewhere. The sound quality is also not very good and songs can sound a bit tinny. At least it gets you out of bed though. For the purpose, which for me is being woken up with the sound of my local radio station, this clock is great and I would definitely recommend it as it was low cost and if you go to Tesco now with a bit of luck you might find it reduced in the January sales.
