      A good little radio

I recently decided that I wanted a small radio in the kitchen so I could listen to music while cooking and pottering around without having to put my hi fi system on loud in the next room. I wanted something that would be cheap and yet look good and be easy to use and after a bit of research bought this Bush DAB radio which fitted the bill.

The first thing I liked about the radio was its looks. I really like the light beech wood colour against the silver speakers and controls which make it look quite classy and more expensive than it really was. The radio is quite small and not too deep so it does not take up too much room on my kitchen workspace and easily fits into a corner.

The radio is DAB which means that it can pick up radio stations from all over the world. Having said that I do normally only listen to a few local ones but it is good to know that there is more I could listen to if I ever wanted to. The radio has a telescopic ariel and I find that this works quite well and I get good reception. it does get some interference though when I am using other machines nearby in the kitchen such as my food processor but I guess this is to be expected.

The controls on the radio are simple and easy to use and it has a blue digital display which tells you the time and the radio station you are listening to. The sound quality is surprisingly good for such a small radio and is quite clear and sharp so is fine for casual listening of music and other programmes.

The radio is portable and has a carry handle which makes it easy to carry around. You can use batteries with it or plug it in at the mains like I do.

Overall I would recommend this radio if you want something small and cheap but that looks good too. It comes in a variety of colours and can be bought for about £30 from Argos or Amazon

Great addition to your kitchen, or bedroom, or garden shed...

I bought my bush DAB radio to replace a cheaper one that had stopped working properly and it has been a great buy. Mine is purple and they come in various designs and colours.

The radio is slimline, enabling it to sit on the kitchen worktop without taking up too much space. It has a telescopic aerial, but I have found the reception is perfect without it up. I can not remember having the signal breaking up or unclear, so it is a vast improvement on traditional FM radios. Even taking it out and about I have not needed to use the aerial. There are small buttons, but they are clearly labelled and well spaced so you can easily press the right one. This enables you to turn the radio on, adjust from DAB to FM, adjust the station and collect and retrieve stations in the internal memory. This is a useful feature as if you regularly listen to more than one station you can press one button to switch between them, rather than having to scroll through all the stations. The dial to adjust the volume is easy to use and control.

I have very much enjoyed the features of the Bush DAB radio. The time comes up automatically when the radio is turned on, and adjusts automatically when the clocks change. When listening to the station the radio displays the name of the show and the name and artist of the song playing. This is useful when you can't remember the name of the song and didn't catch what the DJ said! When the radio is first plugged in it will automatically find all the available stations, which you cans scroll though so you may find something to listen to that you didn't know was available.

The radio is powered by a slimline power cord and plug, but this can be removed and it can also run on 4 AA batteries, which my husband found useful so he didn't have to miss the cricket when out and about! The one problem I have had with the radio was trying to listen to it with batteries during a recent power cut after a storm and I could not get a DAB reception at all, but I assume this was the fault of DAB signals generally, rather than this radio.

        Disadvantages

A bargain introduction to the world of the DAB radio, excellent clarity

        =Bush DAB Radio=

        =The Radio=
The radio is a digital radio from Bush, I brought mine for the kitchen as my last one needed replacing so it seemed an idea time to go modern. On the front is a illuminated display which shows the station that you are currently listening to, this is quite a bright line but I would summarise it as being well illuminated, so that you can see easily enough without literally having to be on top of the radio to see. It also displays the current time, and I find this is accurate and when the clocks change this is done automatically on the radio.

        =Ease of Use=
To say this is easy to use is an understatement, even my father who is the least technical man there is - he can't read a text on a mobile phone - he can change channels.

        =Change Channels=
You just press to scan through and it picks up the channels, you can set up to 10 channels in the memory. This is done by a touch of a button.

        =Sound=

I can really tell the difference between an analogue radio and a digital, the digital is extremely clear, the difference is like hearing a pin drop in clarity. I do find depending on the station that there are occasions that I turn the volume down, which to me is not a problem, in fact I find it a bonus as to me it is the clarity that it is picking up on.

        =Electricity=
The battery is supplied with an electric cable, this is about a metre in length, or you can use batteries, but as mine is based in the kitchen I always use the electricity socket, even if I am sat in the back garden, I just move the radio to the window sill and the level of the music is still excellent.

        =Easy to clean=
I just give the radio a clean over with a baby wipe (not plugged in) as I find with it being in the kitchen it does tend to pick up grime, the speaker mesh does seem to attract dust.

        =Sturdy=
The radio is sturdy, as it has rubber feet which do not slip and slide, even when you are touching the controls on the radio.

        =Price=
Unfortunately I do not know the price as it was brought as a thank you gift from a friend, I would say it is a great entry level digital radio.

        Disadvantages

This is a very good digital radio

        WHAT IS IT?

A digital radio made by Bush.  The design changes often, my Bush DAB radio looks a bit different to the photograph and it has got blackened speaker mesh and a longer handle.

        THE DESIGN

The digital radio has got a very nice design that looks smart in my kitchen. It is very heavy for a radio so I do not take it out with me very often even though I bought it for taking to work when I visit clients homes, it is too heavy for that and takes up a lot more room that a cheap analogue radio. The illuminated display is large enough for me to see what it says while I am sitting down and it glows brightly to give me a nice little light in the kitchen. The display tells me what station I am on and announces if anything special is happening at that time.  It is an accurate display and there is no time lag.

        EASE OF USE

This DAB radio is very easy to use. You just scan through the channels to find what you are looking for and if there are channels that you listen to regular then you can store them as presets.  This radio holds 10 presets and does not lose them even if the power is turned completely off for a long time.  Storing and accessing presets is very easy and done at the touch of a button.

        SOUND

I think this radio has got a very clear sound and there is never any interference.  The volume is a bit funny because it goes up loud but you cannot turn it down very well, the lowest is inaudible but the next volume increment up is still quite loud.  I cannot listen to it in bed like I want to and have to use another DAB radio because this one wakes my husband up.  Sometimes the volume alters by itself and that is when a very loud rock song comes on the radio, it makes me jump sometimes and I have to rush to turn it down.

        WHAT I THINK

I like this radio very much and am glad I purchased it even though I cannot use it as I intended.  I like that it will work by battery as well as through the electric because that made it easy for me to take it on our holiday to a hotel that charges for electrical checks on items that are going to be used in the rooms.  It saved me a charge at the end of our stay and the batteries lasted for the entire five days of our short break but not very much longer.

The radio is simple to work, my daughter is nine and she has saved a childrens radio station to a preset channel and can access it by herself. I was going to buy her one of her own for her birthday but I forgot about it so I might get her one for her Easter present instead.  I think it is good that it's so easy to use because that means a lot of people can have one and even if they are not technical in thought they will still be able to use it.

The only thing I dislike about this DAB radio is that the join where the handle is gathers dust and it is very hard to keep it clean.  The speaker mesh gets dirty as well but that is easy to clean and I think it is because of it being black that the dust shows up.  The feet are not slippy so the radio does not slide when I touch it.

        5 Dooyoo Stars.

A good quality DAB digital radio for the future.

Radio is an age old media transmitter invented many years ago and adored ever since by several generations of music, talk show and world news lovers. Many still believe it be superior to the TV replacement which has become even more popular, successful and influential in recent times. There are still many applications for the radio in today's world, and digitising the analogue set has ensured it lives onto into the future a little longer. Perhaps the main application for the radio is in the car, but portable radios for the home, like this 'BUSH DAB' model remain in high demand.

This device can be purchased for around £45-65 and is a modern example - combining a traditional wooden housing with a chrome front displaying the controls and LCD screen. I like the retro look of the device and feel it fits with most kitchen environments, and similarly with most living room/dining room settings. The handle on top is made from the same metal material as the front section and offers support and stability when lifting the light weight contraption. This is perhaps the only real element to the design which gives the radio its 'portability' as the device requires a wall plug and not batteries to operate.

The display on the LCD screen is crystal clear, allowing you to select from 10 pre-set stations and 10 DAB pre-set stations. Everything is already pre-loaded onto the device which helps less technically minded individuals to operate the device. The machine also has a headphone socket and a utilises a stereo sound speaker when this isn't in use (2x2 Watts RMS). The sound quality from the speaker is excellent, it is as clear as any radio I've encountered, and the sound can be really fill an open space well.

All in all this radio is of excellent quality all round. The materials are high quality and long lasting and the sound you receive from the speakers is great. This is a higher end product and carries a harsh price tag for some purchasers, but it really is worth it if you want to part from the cash.

          Bush DAB Radio

In times of Itunes and mp3, downloads and AVI, it`s sometimes very satisfying and soothing to sit down with a cup of tea and a cookie, read a couple of favorite magazines and simply listen to the radio. I love to listen to the radio, and was therefore very glad when my father gave me this Bush DAB radio as a "welcome home from the hospital after you`ve broken your leg" sort of gift... I have now gotten used to the different features and how to use this radio, and all in all I am very pleased with it, from its crystal clear sound and reception to its classic, yet very cool design.

After some research, I`ve found that you can buy this radio at some places for as little as 34.55, both argos and amazon often have good offers on this product. You can either choose to plug the radio into the wall or make it sound by using AA batteries, the battery option is very practical for when you`re outside or in a cabin somewhere, which then again, I`m not that often...

          This radio measures:

          Height 12.6 centimeters
          Width - 24.6 centimeters
          Depth 8.6centimeters

In other words, this radio isn`t too big and bulky for when travelling, and you can easily bring it with you in your suitcase and luggage if you want to.

The reception and sound quality is very clear and well balanced, and I have yet to experience any orioblems with the audio. The radio comes with a LCD display and a headphone socket, and it has ten stations that is already pre-set, which makes it even easier to use.

This is a very good quality radio that is easy to use, and therefore easy to recommend.

Welcome to the next generation of Radio, Bush-style!

I listen to the radio all the time at work, working in a busy kitchen, so when I get home often I am tired of hearing the same old songs and listening to the same old stations. Which is why when I wanted a Portable radio for the kitchen I wanted to go for a D.A.B one. And knowing that Bush has a good name for reliability and quality of manufacture, this was the model I ended up going for!

What attracted me to this paticular model? Well as some of you may know from my other reviews, I like all things retro. I like my home to have a certain style and feel of times gone by ~ not Edwardian or Victorian nessecarily, nothing that ancient, but more a feel of my generation growing up; I like things that remind me of stuff that was about when I was younger. And this paticular model has a very retro vibe going on, looking very stylish and cool like something from another era cross-bred with technology of the Twenty-First century!

Of course, sooner or later buying things on asethetically pleasing criteria is going to back-fire on me but not here! Not only doies it look good but it also sounds good with a crisp, clear sound I had long given up on with Radio. And of course with D.A.B you get a much wider selection of radio stations to pick from aimed at much more select, elite and ecletic tastes. Want to listen to Rock? There's Planet Rock. Absolute Radio now have stations cued in to almost every generation from the sixties upwards. And if you like cheesey pop, then there are stations for that too ~ often with very little D.J interaction meaning that you can enjoy even more music than on conventional radio!

But back to this paticular model of D.A.B. It has a L.E.D display screen that is much easier to read on other similar radios I have seen and if you want to change back to F.M then this offers you the opportunity to do so. There are 10 F.M presets. 10 D.AB presets but obviously you can also move down the dial at will should you want to locate something else to listen to. All Preset basically means is that when you hit a button, you go straight to a station you have already picked without all the faffing about.

Other things I like about this is that its fairly lightweight despite looking like it might be a it chunky! My one qualm....you need to have this near to a power point as using batteries can be quite expensive. This does tend to eat power like some kind of electrical version of the cookie monster! But then, from discussions with friends, all D.A.B radios are a bit like that so this is not a flaw exclusive to this model, they just really DO need a lot of juice to cope with all the new-fangled technology with all its whistles and bells!

I love this D.A.B radio and it comes highly reccomended from me! And at aprox £35 right now from Argos, there has never been a better time to pick one up!

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

A great little radio perfectly suited to a kitchen.

          Price I paid 81Euro  Thats around £70

          Firstly, what is DAB?
DAB stands for Digital Audio Broadcasting. It has been described as the most fundamental advance in radio technology since the introduction of FM stereo radio. The main reason for this, is that it basically is the same as the difference between analog and satellite TV. The difference IS noticeable.

The aesthetics of this radio are one of it's main selling points the "old style" design will appeal to people like myself that remember radios like this, and to the very young that don't, but will like it's retro style.

Sometimes morning tv can be one or both of two things. Overly cheerful and loud. Or downright depressing.
Sometimes a radio playing in the background is just right, as you try and become human, first thing in the morning.

This little beauty from Bush, does the job perfectly.
It's nice and compact. You don't need a huge sound system with woofers and the like in your kitchen. You don't even need a CD player a simple little radio like this does the job well, perfectly well.

One of the good things about it's compact size (H12.6, W24.6, D8.6cm) is that it can go anywhere. You can have it on the breakfast bar, countertop, windowsill it will fit anywhere and won't draw your attention to it unnecessarily. But if it does happen to catch your eye it's a pleasure to look at.
With it's pale wooden cabinet and silver facade it looks "cute" (not my words)
The electric blue LCD display is easily readable from a distance. Some of these little screens are impossible to read from less than a few inches away.

This is a Digital DAB/FM radio, this means you can listen to both the FM radio stations you have always known and loved. Plus the almost endless list of digital stations available at the push of a button or the twist of a dial.

There are 10 FM preset stations. This cuts down the time it would take you to tune in your favourite channel. Instead it's as simple as pushing a button.

There are 10 DAB preset stations, again this is so handy, especially with the DAB stations as there can be so many of them.

The stereo speakers (2 x 2 watts RMS) throw out a surprisingly good sound, small speakers can more times than not have a "tin can" sound. These have full base and good treble.

The Auto time update function means you will never have to set the time manually again. As long as there is a signal, you will always have the right time.

The expected but always welcome, headphone socket, means when you want to bring the radio somewhere quiet maybe somewhere to have a lie down, you can use the headphone socket (no headphones provided) to listen to some relaxing music or talk radio, without disturbing others.
This is made all the more easy as it can run off either mains power or battery power (4 x AA batteries not included)

One thing about this raido is that it's designe will not be to everybody's taste and unless you know someone perticulary well this might not be the best choose of gifts. Because youneither love it or hate it.
          I happen to love it

This little radio is both stylish and functional. It doesn't cost the earth, has good sound. And most importantly it enables you listen to radio channels you otherwise wouldn't be able to.

          I'm glad I bought it.

a well-priced radio that looks good

I have always loved listening to the radio and remember sitting with (both sets) of my grandparents listening to the wireless. As I work from home mine is always set on radio 4 where I can start the day with Today, then Woman's hour etc and hope there is a good play on in the afternoon....

My faithful old portable 'died' on me a few months ago so I treated myself to this Bush one because, as a family, we have always found their products to be so reliable. I paid £45 for mine but have noticed it is now in the Argos sale for £33.99 (until 29 July) and the same price in Homebase at the moment.

The Dooyoo picture is an accurate one and as you can see it has a retro look to it which gives it some personality and it different to most of the radios around today.

It is mains or battery operated but as I last paid ££4.59 for 4 Duracell AA batteries I have plugged mine into the wall!

            measurements
            ************
            height 12.6 cm
            width - 24.6 cm
            depth 8.6cm
so you can see it is a good size for a portable radio.

It gives a good, clear reception with the lack of any annoying 'hissing' sounds. We live in Cheshire, not far from Manchester airport yet I can still get great reception in all rooms as well as in the garden.

            features
            *******
            headphone socket
            LCD display
            digital DAB/FM tuner
            10 pre-set stations
            10 DAB pre-set stations
            stereo speaker
            2x2 watts RMS
            autotime update

The only thing I would point out is the unusual volume control but I've soon got used to this and I would not class this as a disadvantage - more a quirky feature.

            My opinion
            *********
well priced for a basic yet durable portable radio
            easy to tune
good clear reception (it has an ariel as opposed to a thin plastic wire)
recommended by me especially in the wee small hours when I'm listening to the World Service!

5 stars from me and thank you Messrs Bush (the company, not the ex presidents of the US I hasten to add!)

Great reception, good price, looks good, takes up little room.

We had 2 other DAB radios but they hissed and the reception was not good. We bought this in Argos and are very happy with it. The sound is great (no hissing!) and is neat enough to have in the kitchen without taking up much room. Very reasonable for the price. It has : Auto time update.LCD display, digital dab/fm tuner,10 preset stations,10 dab preset stations, stereo speakers and 2X2 Watts RMS.
We have had it for a few weeks now and the reception is really good as it has a proper aerial (if you know what I mean!) The other one we had had a lose wire for the aerial and we could never get good reception. It looks good as well and has had lots of positive comments. I would certainly recommend it as for the price I could not ask for more and would buy again. All in all we are not sorry we bought this.
