I bought the Iluv i199 to use as an alarm clock and although it is rather cumbersome to have on my nightstand I decided to keep it there so I was still in reach of the snooze button. However during the night it filled
the room with strong blue light which couldn't be dimmed to a reasonable level so I had to completely turn off the display, which means that I cannot use it was a clock at night.
The price is good compared to similar products and although this is reflected a little in its appearance, as it looks a little 'plasticy'the sound quaility is amazing it fills the whole room and the speakers and be placed
in the best position to optimise the sound because the Iluv i199 has a brilliant feature which allows bluetooth connections to the speakers. So you dont have unsightly wires running around the room.
If you want a midrange mp3 player or CD player the Iluv i199 is perfect. If you want an alarm clock get an alarm clock.
I own and have owned many ipods, so have tried a few of them on this product and I have to say, I do love these docks. I decided I wanted them because I was fed up of having to just put in earphones all the time and wanted to have my music much louder, and after browsing around, decided to buy the Iluv product.
I think the price is reasonable. I have seen a lot more expensive, although have seen cheaper for similar products, but decided to buy this as it seemed more middle range which I am comfortable with.
The sound quality is really good and the product is also very attractive looking since it has a modern feel, so it was definitely the exact thing I was looking for.
Also saved me money on buying an alarm clock since this has its own alarm clock which works perfectly fine.
I have never really used the radio before. I tried it a few times, but sometimes there was interference, so didn't bother too much with radio afterwards, so I can't really comment on the quality of the radio feature.
Generally, I found this product easy to use and fit for the job and would recommend it.
This product is attractive and slick enough to got well with any black iPod. I bought mine to go with my black nano, with which it looks very smart. It might also look good with a white iPod, but I expect that it would clash with the green pink or blue nanos.
~~Does it Work?~~
It worked straight out of the box, which is SO relieving, and I've had no problems with it at all. The alarm is perfectly easy to set, and allows you to wake up to iPod, Radio or buzzer. iPod and Radio are the only two real options though, as the buzzer is the most ungodly noise to wake up to.
It allows you to set up to two alarms, and allows you to set the volumes for the alarms. The screen will display what alarms are set and what you will wake up to.
The Radio function has no problems with it, and works with AM and FM. The reception is good, although the FM receiver is a long wire which could get in the way and/or spoil the look.
The remote control comes with one battery which has lasted almost 6 months now for me. The controls on the remote are satisfactory, although there is no menu button, so you can only go to the next or previous song using it.
The volume goes from 0 (hardly audible) to 40 (more than loud enough for most people)
The only slight criticism that I have is that the backlight on the alarm comes on automatically when:
you connect or disconnect the iPod
you switch it on
you switch it off
the alarm goes off.
I generally prefer the backlight to be off, so I don't like this. Also, once the backlight is on, you need to press the backlight button 3 times to turn it back off, as it cycles through different levels of brightness before turning off.
All in all, a good investment and worth buying
