Advantages: Radio is of good quality, AM and FM bands, looks cute, batteries last well
Disadvantages: The mood lights do nothing for me and are difficult to turn on and off
People that know me will tell you how much I love a good soak in the bath! It has become a running joke to my friends as I seem to spend more time sat in the bath than I do anywhere else! I think it is because when I am in the bath I am letting myself relax and unwind and to me that is really important. I used to enjoy reading a book or magazine in there but would always end up with the bottom of the pages being soaked in water so I now like to listen to the radio. I was lucky enough to have been brought one of the Paladone Floating Light Effect Duck Bath Radios for Christmas off my mum, she knows how much I love a soak and so here are my thoughts on the product.
The Duck radio cost my mum about £12.00 I think, she got it when she was out and about from a little independent gift shop but I have since looked on the internet and found that you can get the Duck radio from places like EBay for as little as £5.00. It is one of those things that you will find when you least expect it but my best bed it to look on the internet first to try and buy it.
The duck radio came in a clear plastic box so you could see the little man through it! I was impressed with how cute the design was. The concept of the duck radio is quite simple, it has an AM/FM radio built into it and this runs off 3 x AAA batteries. The duck also lights up so it has been a well thought through design in my opinion. It is quite heavy and a sturdy little thing but I think there is a good quality product here.
I have to be honest and say that I have never really used the lights on the dusk. When I first had the lights I tried them out to see what they did and there are 7 colours that the duck will alternate between but as I always light candles when I have a bath I did not see the point in having the lights on the duck as well. I also found that you cannot have the two on together which seemed a little bit silly and I am not sure if it was just mine but the switch seemed a little temperamental.
I have been really impressed with the radio section of the duck though; in fact it seems to pick up a better reception than when in the car! There is a switch on the side of the duck that allows you to tune the radio in and to active the radio you need to twist the ducks head! Sounds cruel but this will get your sounds! The radio struggles with the odd couple of stations but as a fan of Radio one or our local radio station I have never had a problem listening to this.
As I previously mentioned, the radio duck works off the batteries and having the radio on does not appear to drain them this is a good thing though as it is quite difficult to remove the batteries as you need to remove the plastic panel at the bottom of the duck, you need one of those really small screw drivers to get into the back and then the batteries are easily replaced.
For something that did not cost a great deal of money I think my Mum has found me a really good present. When I think of how I have used the radio on my mobile phone before I now have a really simple device that lets me listen to a number of stations. My other half also picks up a Sports program on the AM band of the radio and this is also really clear.
In summary, I am really pleased with this duck radio, although for me the lights section is wasted a little due to me using candles when I have a bath, I think the fact that this is a radio is enough without the added lights changing colour feature!
I give this duck 4 out of 5
Thank you for reading
