Advantages: Looks cute, good idea, radio is okay.

Disadvantages: Lights won't turn off making it a pain to use.

Just before Christmas I was running out of gift ideas for my partner and I was having a little look through Amazon for some novelty stocking fillers. When I saw the Paladone Floating Duck Radio it immediately appealed to me as my partner always takes her iPhone into the bathroom when she's in the bath to listen to music and has had a few near misses in the past with her phone getting wet. At £10 I didn't think the price was too bad, maybe a little expensive for a stocking filler but I'd been struggling to find much else at this type of price so I popped it into my basket.

When the duck came it looked really cute but it wasn't until after christmas day that i could have a proper look at it. The duck does just look like any normal rubber duck although it is probably a little bigger and when you pick it up it's obviously a lot heavier as it's got the radio inside. The place that holds the batteries needs to be unscrewed with a small screwdriver and it takes 3 AAA batteries.
On one side of the duck there's a wing shaped button so you can choose AM or FM radio and on the other is a button for switching the light on or off. The radio itself is turned on by turning the ducks head around. The frequency is adjusting by turning the ducks tail. All the controls are fairly simple and after a couple of uses they're easy to remember.

As you can see from the picture is really cute, it's easy to use and in theory, should be brilliant but when you actually start using the duck radio it lets itself down. Initially all is well, the radio is fine, the sound quality isn't great but it tunes in well and manages to stay on a station well. The lights too are nice, they slowly merge from one colour to the next from red to green, pink or purple. After the bath though is when the disappointment begins. The radio turn off fine but no matter how many times you flick the switch back and forth the lights just won't turn off.

Unfortunately as it's quite annoying to unscrew the back everytime you want to use the duck to turn the lights off it just doesn't get used very much. If the light feature was taken out all together then the duck would be a great little gift as it is nice to listen to the radio in the bath but as it stands this isn't something I could recommend. It still looks cute in the bathroom though!

Summary: 2/5 a cute gadget, if only it worked properly!
