Advantages: Easy to set up
Disadvantages: Aerial is poor
To be honest this would not have been a purchase that I would have made as I have not been very impressed with the quality of digital radio and at £60 it is a rather expensive alarm clock if that is all it gets used for but hubby knows best when it comes to such things so now it sits on the bedside table even though with a baby in the house an alarm is hardly needed.
This is a mains powered clock radio so needs to be located close to a plug socket. It is quite a stylish design being triangular in shape and silver in colour with a black display and flourescent numbers showing the time equally well in daylight or at night and the display can be adjusted between two settings depending on the level of brightness that you want. Alternatively you can set it to auto and it adjusts according to the amount of light in the room, we have found this to work pretty well and have left it on that setting.
It took a couple of minutes to scan through the channels when first activated and it picked up all the main channels. It also set the time according to the signals it received so the only thing you need to set up is the alarm times if you are going to use it for that function. It has four alarm settuings in all so you can have different settings for the weekend if you want or if you have different start times, this is pretty useful and you can either wake up to the radio station of your choice or an alarm tone.
I must say I have been impressed by the quality of the sound for such a small unit that has integral speakers, it is clear and sharp, the only issue I have is common with digital radios and that is the occasional loss of reception. This is not helped by the fact that the aerial is a just a thin piece of wire and is a bit poor and the main thing that lets it down. Ours is looped over a curtain hook which is not ideal.
Overall it is not bad but it could be improved with a better aerial design in my opinion.
Summary: Not bad
